I think time will tell how well they do, I wish them all the luck in the world to deliver value at good prices, teaching others a lesson at their own game!!!

I must admit being Cypriot I did not like the fact that you are charged for the plastic bags.

Other than that, I will be visiting again once the chaos dies down.

By the way, later in the day I took my mum to Carefour for her monthly shopping, you could tell that it was quiet in there, some of the staff were asking customers if had visited Lidl, I wasn't asked.

The bags are 3cts or 10cts for larger, its about keeping prices down and of course much of Europe are doing away with plastic bags as its detrimental to the enviroment, as its takes years and years to break down. Its a problem when you forget to take one with you, to help Carrefour a bit take one of theirs to Lidl

Lidls in the UK/France etc all sell locally sourced products as a matter of good practice to bring bussiness to that locale so no doubt will be selling Cypriot goods if they can negotiate a good financial package with the supplier. We are able to get Greek branded goods this month as each month they showcase a different countries goods.Last month it was USA and Mexican stuff so it is really good to try new things.
Hopefully their opening will herald more competition will other supermarkets and be beneficial to all shoppers in Cyprus.

Marks & Spencers also charge for their bags and Im sure others will soon follow. The important element is the substantial savings that the Cypriot consumer will make . My daughter has been buying nappies for a few years now paying 18 or more Euros per 50 , now at Lidl 6.99 !!!
2 packets on average per week ( two babies ) amounted to 1872 euros pa, now the cost will go down to 727 representing a saving of more than 1100 euros !!!!
Lets watch as the prices elsewhere come tumbling down !!!

Thats a ridiculous amount for a necessity like nappies  I bet she is pleased with that saving. :D

Lanatis milk 1.5 litre selling in Lidl,s for 1.63 some are saying that with a family that is a large saving.

3 x Margherita Pizzas (with a better topping than Carrefour) 1.99
2 kg of apples 1.99
Price of ice creams amazing

Fresh veg and potatoes a lot cheaper than anywhere at present.

This is from a friend who has been, she felt one or two items where dearer than the discount shops but went to Kokkinos after for products that she needed and reported it was dead but shock of shocks her fav frozen white fish down from 7 euros last week to 3.69  Its already started!!

And for you Milti though it might be no good (not up on wines) 6 bottles of Chiraz for 9.99.
