Bribe scandal of American politicians to serve Turkish goals

Postby fi » Sun Aug 07, 2005 8:02 pm

The newspaper Phileleftheros has information that Turkish citizens as well as Turkish-Americans who have financial relationships with the Turkish government were bribing members of the Republican Party as well as US Congressmen to server Turkish interests. Emphasis was given on the Cyprus problem, Greek-Turkish relationships as well as the Armenian genocide.

Phileleftheros reveals also today a related article that appears on Monday in the new issue of “Vanity Fair”. Miss Sibel Edmonds translator in the FBI claims in her interview that she translated communication in which it can be seen clearly that Turkish citizens were buying off Republican politicians. The current President of Congress (Speaker of the House) Dennis Hastert is named to have received up to $483,000.

Miss Edmonds describes that in 2000 the Armenians came very close to succeeding their goal. Ten minutes before the crucial vote with which Ankara would have been accused for the Armenian genocide, Mr. Dennis Hastert withdrew his backing with a result the defeat of the Armenians. On one of the tapes you can hear a diplomat in the Turkish consulate saying that the cost for this was $50,000 “That’s Hastert’s price” he says.

I’ll keep you posted guys on the updates on this. The full article in Greek is here:

have you just woken up to the realities of this world.
policians taking bribes? no where, when?

why do you think the majority of the worlds politicians become politicians?

i remember a friend of mine gc - his father made tents- at a tender by the cypriot defence minister for tents for the gc army, my friend's father said to the defence minister

" these tents are forty dollars but for you minister i have a special price of fifty dollars"

he got the order. it happens.

You are are out of the subject this isn't a simple suppliers bribe thing (which by the way now has dissapeared in Cyprus and since you have this info you should have given it to the authorities!!!!!!)

This is definetely going to have big implications in the US and definetely going to affect the already general negative environment of Turkey. Do you think it's right for a country to intervene in this way in the internal functions of another country?

First to the governement itself, you can (and should) send anonymous information tipping on the illegal action.

If the governement fails to react you can forward the info to the oposing political parties and finally the press if all else fails. As you probably know the press in Cyprus love this kind of stuff.

You don't have to worry we have a real democracy here unlike the Turkish military state/extremists which is true has killed many TC that tried to reveal the truth or expose the state.

In the ROC you can say anything you want without fear (besides as we said you can do it anonymously :) ).

Any comments on the article?
