How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

quite possibly that this staying in power business is one of democracy's failings.

Perhaps, but one has to stop and think as to what is the motivation behind it all. Why bother being president if you cannot leave your mark for the future? What is the point?

mikkie

the point is the pay and the rake offs, this goes for ours as well as yours.

Pay and rakeoffs? Are you serious? The man is a multimillionaire. He doesn't need the money! With all due respect, that is a joke of an argument.

Some people are just Power Crazy and Mr Papadop appears to be one of those people, he still has the goal he swore to in those EOKA years to completely Hellenise Cyprus and rid it of any Turkish Cypriots, even though you are in the EU, the year is 2005 nothing much has changed same mentality, thank god the GCs voted OXI......

Othellos wrote: I have a much simpler theory about all this: Tassos' single concern and ambition is how stay President for as long as possible.

While I agree with you Othellos that Papadopoulos biggest mistake was the sending of the letter to the UN to resume talks on the Anan Plan back in Dec 2003 (?) however I beleive this was done because he was carried away by Klerides. Klerides policy was always of "don't be afraid do it just to expose Turkey once more, no matter what Denktash will never accept it anyway".
And we finally all fell in the trap and still paying the consequences...

However I disagree with your "simple theory". What would Papadopoulos gain? More money? He is already a multi-millionaire. His wife was always the richest daughter in Cyprus. (She is only the daughter of late Leventis isn’t she?).
Moreover Papadopoulos is suffering from cancer and most propably his time to live is already known and limited.

Would you stay President under such conditions without beleiving that you are serving a higher cause for your people? I beleive Papadopoulos is trying his best under the circumstances. And i beleive he is heading the right way.

After all what did the previous Presidents achieve for 31 years other than concessions upon concessions upon concessions. The TCs managed to get their BBF and their equality all these years, what did we get in return other than losing our most basic human rights, and most of our properties?

I have never heard of this before, is this fact of hear say that we are so fond of in Cyprus?

What sort of cancer is it?

Where is he getting treatment, in cyprus, us, uk etc.?

Will this not affect his performance as president and negotiations on various topics?

When the man dies he should be given a full state funeral with full honours, I have never respected a man as I have of His Excellency President Papadopoulos, perhaps Makarios, but he stood up for his people when we most needed it. A great man.

Why not and when Denktas dies the TC can do the same and give his Excellency Denktas full honours for his dedication and standing up for his people and against the oppression and murders from EOKA etc.

Sure, if you want.

As far as I know President Papadopoulos or his state are not in breach of International Law to the extent Denktash is.

The Annan Plan was always going to be rejected when it had been finished in final draft, it was unacceptable, totally unnaceptable.
