SILIKIOTIS SAW A SOLUTION THAT WE DIDNT?

From the News:
QUOTE
INTERIOR MINISTER COUNCIL FOR RECONSTRUCTION

Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis has said that the Cyprus
government has been working with dedication and persistence with a view
to reach a political settlement of the Cyprus problem, which is going
through a critical period.

Speaking during a seminar of the Council for Reconstruction and
Resettlement From Conflict to Partnership The Environment of
Reconstruction attended by experts from Northern Ireland, Sylikiotis
said that we are in the process of seeking peace, ways of coexistence
of communities in Cyprus and of good neighbourhood with our
neighbouring states, adding that we know that there is no easy way
towards peace.

The Minister said that the Council faces unprecedented challenges as it
is trying to plan for a future of which many important aspects are not
yet known, since the leaders of the two communities are still engaged
in negotiations. He also noted that dialogue with Cyprus partners in
the EU Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the United
Kingdom - is necessary and would give important feedback as to how they
addressed such situations, with a view to avoid any mistakes and
disappointments and adopt options that have led to successes and
optimism.

Sylikiotis said that during various visits of representatives of the
Council to Northern Ireland and visits of experts from Northern Ireland
to Cyprus, they discussed about what is needed to build bridges,
restore trust and self-confidence to achieve success and open prospects
for the two communities which remain divided for many years.

From what I gather Silikiotis is trying to find out how the Irish coped with division..... THATS what worries me added to the fact that he is speaking about reconstruction when the solution is not there yet..... and THATS even more worrying....

Your looking at this from the wrong angle. The UK invaded Northern Ireland, and THEN opened the book on peaceful dialogue. Turkey should have Taken the Entire island in 1974 and then open the book on a Federal Formula, but as part of a United Republic of Turkey and Cyprus - with Cyprus being a Federation!!!! The Greek Cypriots forget that Northern Cyprus is a Part of the UK and NOT a Part of the Republic of Ireland.

I served a short stint in Northern Ireland with the Royal Marines Commando Units 40 and 45 a few years back and can say that it's far from a loving, peaceful society.
