According to press reports Pavlos Kontides is ranked world number 2 in the Laser class of Boat. This is one of the most popular types of boat sold, an out and out racing Dinghy with no concession to comfort for cruising, requiring both skill and strength to sail well, which is very competively raced.

This is an excellent acheivement.

Here is hoping to his success in Rio.

Holy mother of...
Totally different levels.
They should have never been put up against each other.
I get being hosts gives you the privilege of automatic qualification into every department... but not like this.

An Egg! The Turkeys have laid an Egg! Brilliant and most apt. :P

( Egg = hockey terminology for scoring nothing, zero, nada, zippo, zilch!)

...a childhood dream come true,
The 27-year old sailor, arriving back in Cyprus from France, said his new gold medal was a "great success, the greatest” after the silver medal he won at the London Olympics in 2012.

As a former laser sailor myself I know just how tricky lasers are to sail well, as you have to be be very fit to be able to sustain sitting out in a reasonable blow and very agile, to get back in during tacking or gybing. The guy deserves a lot of credit. Well done Pavlos.
