TRNC President Dervis Eroglu has said that the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has invited him to New York for a trio meeting via telephone. Mr Eroglu was speaking during a visit paid to him by a delegation from the Ankara Diplomacy Correspondents’ Association.
Responding to a question during the visit, Eroglu made public that the UN Secretary General called him yesterday afternoon and complained about the course of the negotiations process.
He noted that he gave a positive response to the UN Chief’s invitation for a trio meeting in New York and the meeting will take place within 15 days if the Greek Cypriot Side also accepts the invitation.
On the issue of Maras, Eroglu said that it is impossible to end the Cyprus Problem with partial solutions while continuing comprehensive negotiations.
In a statement earlier, a UN spokesman announced that the UN Chief held separate telephone conversations with the TRNC President Dervis Eroglu and the ROC President Dimitris Christofias.
The Spokesperson stated that Ban was following the Cyprus negotiations process closely through his Adviser for Cyprus Alexander Downer and that a report would be prepared in the following month regarding the progress at the talks.
The spokesperson said that the UN Secretary General spoke to the leaders about the slowing down of the Cyprus talks in the past couple of weeks and called on them to capture concrete steps on the property issue and maintain the momentum of the peace talks.
