Europarliament Legal Committee 18/5/1 against Direct Trade

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Europarliament Legal Committee 18/5/1 against Direct Trade

Postby grokked » Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:26 pm

CyBC late news in Greek reported the outcome of the discussion within the European Parliament Legal Committee tonight as being 18 in favor of accepting the report against accepting the European Commission recommendation regarding direct trade with Turkish occupied Cyprus, 5 in favour and 1 abstention.

One can not help wondering whether those responsible within the European Commission for that recommendation to the European Parliament will resign, now that the recommendation they had proposed have been found to have been contrary to EU law ?

The most vocal supporter was Štefan Füle, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy. One wonders how much better off the EU would be without his time-wasting opposition to those countries who wish to see an end to the protracted Turkey accession process.

As expected...no direct trade. The "Turks of Cyprus" must now see the “realities” of all these decisions against their breakaway state. Join the civilized world and open the fenced off ghost town of Varosha NOW!

EP COMMITTEE – DIRECT TRADE

The European Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs approved on Monday with 18 votes in favour, five against and one abstention the opinion of the Council Legal Service, that the legal basis of the regulation on direct trade between the EU and Cyprus Turkish occupied areas is wrong and that the proper legal basis is Article 1(2) of Protocol No 10 on Cyprus to the Treaty of Accession of April 2003 .

The Committee rejected by majority the postponement of the relevant discussion and endorsed the opinion of the Council Legal Service.

The decision of the Committee will be evaluated during the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament, in view of the political decisions to be taken on the regulation.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded the island.

The Republic of Cyprus joined the EU on May 1, 2004.

Can’t you see what’s happening? Once Turkey’s EU accession is over, and in conjunction with her freefall with the US and Israel… she will have well and truly joined the “axis of evil” and start getting royalty treatment from the West!

One could then safely conclude that her illegal stay on Cyprus would pretty much be over…

PS: And the best guarantee that this will come to pass is none other than Erdogan himself!

By refusing to comply with its obligations, Turkey would put an end to its own accession.

And risk all our legal, political and diplomatic advantages? Not likely. There are many ways to skin a cat.

Five Turkish bum-boys voted against. These people should be named and shamed, their bank accounts checked and their proclivities for Turkish gay sex determined.
