Divided Cyprus cancels annual military manoeuvrs to facilitate long-running peace talks

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Cyprus' defence minister says annual military manoeuvrs have been cancelled to facilitate ongoing talks aimed at reunifying the ethnically divided island.

It is the third straight year that Cyprus has called off the exercise — scheduled for Oct. 19-23 — since renewed peace talks between rival Greek and Turkish Cypriots began in September 2008. Talks have so far made fuck all progress.

Costas Papacostas urged Turkey on Saturday to cancel its own war games that it carries out with Turkish Cypriots in response.

Costas Papacostas aint no Psychologist and thats for sure. There was better chance of Turkey desisting from maneuvers before he openned his mouth. What chance now? Dont they know Turkey will not be told anything. She will just do the opposite.

Our government should persuade the military to cancel.
