Unfortunately, the Cyprus problem will never be solved under a Federal structure - we all know that. If two Partner peoples of the original "Cyprus Republic" had a desire to form a federation of some kind, it would have been done and dusted by now. In my view, it's to late. The Russian President only cares about the Greek Cypriot ROC's financial and religious connections and doesn't care about any political solution on a tiny island smaller than its most tiny russian mountain area (somewhere in the east! Ha Ha). This trip was nothing other than a symbolic one, and the Greek Cypriots know it. Additionally, how could Cyprus be so close to a nation that is not part of the European Union, which the EU recognised Kosovo besides Greek Cyprus (Strange! I thought the EU were in complete unison?), while at the same time having a separate agenda with Russia. Russia is playing the Greek Cypriot Republic of Cyprus like a worthless feather falling from an astray bird. Does Greek Cyprus actually know what it's politically doing? Plus, we didn't see the Russian President visit Northern Cyprus, the so-called other part of the ROC which the Greek Cypriots are so bent on being EU representatives of!
I have spoken to a number of very close Russian friends in the media world who said that they didn't even bother reporting such an insignificant trip. "Why?" I asked, "Because he chose to visit Greek Cyprus while on his Holidays! It wasn't official!". Well, that explains it then, the Russian President decided to take a holiday and GC Leader Christofias got childishly excited about it.
Why have I said the above? Well, please read the latest agreements between Turkey and Russian as I'm sure Christofias' so-called received "assurance" regarding the Cyprus issue will make no sense at all.
