Traditional sources dictate that Aisha was six or seven years old when betrothed to Muhammad[51][52][53] but the marriage was not consummated until she was nine or ten years old. While the majority of traditional sources indicate Aisha was prepubescent (and therefore a virgin) at the time of marriage, a small number of more recent writers have variously estimated her age at 15 to 24.

well...well...wiki lying again hey insan..

why don't you read before you post you ignoramus...if it wasn't true and wiki actually lied about it, the muslims would have called a fatwa at the insult of their prophet...

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Did_Muhammed_ ... r_old_girl

Which wiki sounds more accurate? yours? Mine? or theirs? what if i edit your one in 5 minutes?

you can't even comprehend what the hell you are quoting...how can someone take you serious on this board is beyond belief...

here is what you are quoting for everyone to see...

Code: Select all
The simple answer is no. However the answer is more complex than it might look on the surface.
One of Muhammad's wives was Ayesha or Aisha. Depending on what sources are used her age at marriage is sometimes put at 6 and consummation at 9. However there are a number of facts which need to be factored in.
1: Not all sources agree with Bukhari about Ayesha's age, Bukhari's Hadith were not collated until 300-odd years after Muhammad's death. Other sources give Ayesha's age as being 16 at marriage and 19 at consummation.
2: Even if her age were 6 / 9, the custom of taking child brides was a part of Middle-Eastern culture. The Jews practised it as well as many of the other nations in the Middle-East and remember too that Mary of Nazareth's age was probably around the 12-14 mark.
3: Customs and Traditions as well as laws were very different then from now. What is considered unacceptable now was not considered anything to comment about then.

Point one only says some agree to disagree...

point 2 & point 3 tries to justify it,...

so again who is your daddy my little ignoramus?...

Let ignorants speak and supposedly amuse themsleves Deniz... they can only amuse theirselves with their sweeping made up stories...

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Did_Muhammed_ ... r_old_girl

Madam Ayeshah married Prophet Muhammad when she was 19 years old and not 9.

This investigation shows that the nikah of Aishah to the Prophet of Islam took place when she was around 16-17 years old, and not 6; and her marriage was solemnized when she was 19 and not 9. The Prophet died when she was 28, not 18; and she became one of the leading scholars and teachers of Islam, giving aid and advice to the subsequent Caliphs. Read this investigation: http://www.ilovezakirnaik.com/madamayeshah

This book/investigation is authored by an ex-Chrisitian Muslim, Dr Ruqayyah from United Kingdom.

Gul's wife isn't cousin of Gul and when they got married the age of consent in Turkey was 15.

End of the story and Boomsy's pure galimatias which he makes for only self-amusement like a retard...

Thanks for the info Insan. Its a shame people will believe anythything posted on cf. Esp anything anti-islam or anti-anything. No point debating these as who was alive then to give true accounts of what happened. As to Gul, who cares.? Arent blood tests obligatory in Turkey? What is the purpose of these? I still aint bothers apart from the fact that cousins should not marry for obvious reasons. Unfortunately is does happen sometimes.

errr....put your specs on and look at the post above yours...an answer to the first link he gave...

the second link is a muslim link and they can say what ever they want...not very credible...

but what is credible, for certain, muslims would have uproared if the info on wiki was incorect...they uproared for even something remotely less...like burning of a book the prophet wrote...imagine insulting the prophet, huh?...unless of course they view it as correct info...

in short insulting the prophet doesn't go down well with the muslim community...

so i say in light of this fact the wilki info is correct...no fatwa...

sharia law is islam...i wonder what you make of stoning of women deniz and how would you view it?...I suppose you will be as tolerant, as bir, a modern age, new age man and say well damn it we need to be sensitive to other cultures...stone away brothers...
OR
would you say people are prejudice against islam through ignorance...

just wondering really...

both links insan posted are discredited...

further more just because the law allows something in the country does not make it right...as explained earler, and so far no one answered it...aparteid was alive and well in SA...how come the rest of the world didn't agree...maybe if we all were modern, new age tolerant people with understanding of iothers culture as bir would have us believe we could have said it was done democratically in their country...and the blacks would still be slaves today...what do you think deniz?...

how about the cutting of female genitalia Deniz?....all in the name of isalm of course...still practice to this very day...you are ok with this too, huh?...or I am ingorant and prejudistic towards islam...and maybe say nothing, or in birs case show tolerance and understanding of others culture...

mate admit it islam needs an inquisition...its backwards and still practised as it was a few centuries ago when people were simple dumbasses...like bir trying to excuse it in simple terms attacking people for not being tolearns...

I dont know what you think I am Boomers, but I abhor every barbarity carried out in the name of Islam (or for any other religion for that matter).

My gripe is that people will use these topics to attack ALL T's/TC's as if they are solely responsible for the barbaric actions of some barbaric community. You have just done the same by asking me about female circumcision and stoning to death. Get a life Boomers. You are better than that.

you are wrong my friend, the point is if everyone remained silent thiws will be going for ever...in this instance, underage marriage to an overgrown man, coupled by immediate family ties is absolutely wrong...you know it, i know it everyone knows it...and for bir to come out and say we should show tolerance towards other peoples customs is purely wrong....

There is nothing wrong wrong or excibiting prejudice exposing something is wrong...

the examples of stoning and curring off girls genitalia are more examples that discredit bir's arguments...either you voice it or pit up with it...i guess i chose to voice it...

further more this topic only highlighted the backwardness of a highly educated individual...what on earth was he thinking off?...

i could understand and said it many times, a peasnt doing it due to lack of education, but the then future president of a country?...

now you see how europeans see Gul...and don't tell me they would approve this because of tolerance...western society will never accept this...hell many muslims wouldn't...i know quite a few that wouldn't and call him backwards...why then the tcs would try and justify this when even the turks abhort this action?...you think turks are prejudice and show ignorange at their own people?...

why not join the other forum and ask the question deniz?...

I will stick to the cf. Cyprus is my chief interest, so I guess you are stuck with me.

I will not be a party to you and Birs differences except that he is intelligent enough not to condone the subject at hand.

I disappoint quite often. Can not be helped. Show me an instance where what Bir said is untrue in this context and quote, then I may criticise him. Yet isnt it true that a number of Oz GCs enjot T/TC baiting? I find it shameful. TC have always been 10 steps ahead of Turks from Turkey in their liberalism and anything else that you can think of.

Let’s not get over excited about my compatriot from down under. We are not all like him. He comes up with such crap. How is marrying a 16 year old a paedophile activity? And when has consensual sex become a rape? There are no virgins in the western world above the age of 14 so there must be a hell of a lot of paedophiles in the west. If Mohammed married a 7 year old it was 1500 years ago my friend, kindly wake up. If there is female circumcisions considering there are approximately 1.5 billion Muslims in the world what percentage of the Muslims actually circumcise their daughters except a few perhaps in the depths of Africa.
Boomerang is acting like a rabid dog. I am no psychologist but I get a feeling he is suffering from something which he has not divulged but I would recommend he does it to the professionals rather than on the forum
