Ecevit was elected and had the support of Turkey. He was not punished, but congratulated (by Turks and TCs).

The junta leaders were deposed and punished by the Greek people.

Lessones from the Past...........

Clerides: I admit to mistakes

Former Greek cypriot president Glafkos Clerides confessed ''mistakes and missed opportunities'' over the Cyprus history between 1960-1974.

'' We did not do anything when clashes started between 2 communities in 1963...... We believed (GC's) that Turkish Cypriots would surrender if we isolated them in cantons.... this was a major mistakes ''

Rather than address the problems Clerides said Makarios concerntrated on consitutional changes to remove the Turkish Cypriots votoes. It was the raising of this issue that in fact caused Dr Kucuk to withdraw from office and sparked the first communal clashes.

In 1968Clerides and Denktas began their first talks. Clerides recalled that the TC's were at that stage demanding a few changes to the consititution of the ROC rather tha two states.

In a trade off 13 amendments were agreed in exchange for local autonomy for the TC'S these included a loss of national veto and a reduction of participation in goverment from 30 % to 20 % in line with the size of their population.

However politicking by Makarios meant that the the agreement failed.
''Makarios said Greece and Turkey should sign the agreement by promising that they will prevent ENOSIS and PARTITION . Makarios wanted to sign later not to be accused of making concessions from Cyprus Hellenism.

'' The most dangerous moment for ROC was the surrender of the TC's,because we knew that Turkey would than intervene'' said Cleridis we missed the opportunity to change the 1960 constitution in favour of ourselves (GC's)nobody could foresee that the TC people would demand 2 states in 1974

Cleridis confessed that GC's saw the dependence as transition period in removing the British.Cleridis said that he regretted that the presidents of GC administration had used their authority in the interest of their own community rather than in the common interest of all Cypriots.

above interview was published last week in GC paper Fileleftheros......

gig heads will blame the TC's again .... yes I would like to be my own EFENDI after all ..... Chances we gave and tried.... I don't mean partition...

I say BBF..........take a note: BBF

The frequently used Hellenic term is precisely the Greek word for Ellinikos cosmos ie Greek world !

There isn't a country called "anglo-saxon".

All those recent imports into Australia have nothing to do with the Greeks and Greek Cypriots who have maintained their cultural identity for thousands of years.

Dutch in States were Anglo Saxons? Italians? Spanish? what i am stating here is that American (USA) or Australia Ethnicitry created in "modern" years by shelters - Turks and Neo Cypriots trying to do the same in Cyprus-to create a Cyprus Ethnicity/ My question is why we must accept this.As for your post and these beautiful Enlish words i can not follow you unless i start to post in GREEK/.

Can someone with half a brain enlighten me as to the difference between Greek and Hellene ?
(Greek: Έλληνες, /ˈe̞line̞s/), also known as Hellenes,
I thought that Greek was the English word for ...Hellene !!
