Attic insulation

Postby DANGAMAN » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:39 pm

Hi I am think of placing insulation in my attic.

For the Cyprus climate... I am after ideas on how and what material to use.

I have seen an aluminium sided air- bubble blanket. Has anyone tried this?

PS: For got to tell you in some areas it would be a tight area to work in.

Thanks in advance :D

That material is sandwiched between the sheets of wood and roof tiles when making a new roof. What you’re looking for is a different thing altogether.

I used Dow polystyrene from EKA in Limassol: http://building.dow.com/na/en/products/ ... idfoam.htm

Just screwed it to the roof rafters. It's an old house with a wood roof and was very easy to install. After that I installed rock wool from Petousis between the ceiling and attic floor. Amazing difference in my electric bill. I saved the cost of installation within a year!

Thanks can you remember the cost per sheet, as I have seen this in Larnaca too. The lad there said it is about 6.50 Euro per sheet however he did not know the thickness and said there are different thicknesses.

How easy is it to place?

Thanks again :D

I don't recall the cost, but as for installation it's dead easy. I simply screwed it ot the existing beams with long wood screws. Contact Eka for more info. http://www.ekagroup.com/?pageid=66

Dow Chemical market a system for external insulation of the whole house, basically a polystyrene jacket, which is then plastered and painted like conventional stucco. Similar system goes into the rafters or on the roof if you have a flat topped house. If it exists in Greece it must exist in Cyprus too.

Just make sure you don't buy any Greek-made products. They are crap! :x
