We were once the proud owner of a small front garden resplendent with exotic flowers and my now deceased loquat tree. Had to dig up the garden to make room for the multicoloured bins. Aaaaargh!!!! Twisted Evil Not allowed to keep them on the pavement or footpath next to our house.

Have been in the same situation. Council issuing the same number of numerous coloured bins and boxes to people who live in tiny 200+ year old terraced cottages with no drives or garages or side access as they do to those living in modern, detached, big houses with plenty of room to spirit away the bins until collection day.

And you are fined if you put them out a day early, fined if you leave them out after collection (they take them away to the depot if you do it more than once and you have to pay to get it back), fined if you put the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin (and they refuse to empty it at all - putting a sticker on it instead). When I last lived in the UK, I reckoned they used more men and spent more time INSPECTING the bins before emptying them than they did on the emptying of them.

I don't expect Cyprus to ever get like that. My sole complaint is the mindset of Cypriots who flytip, throw their litter from cars or when walking just throw it down in the street.

And cannot understand why the SIGHT OF IT doesn't offend their eyes?

Yesterday someone dumped a large cardboard box by the wheelie bins here. It is already almost full to the top with carrier bags of household rubbish. The bins next to it are more or less empty? I just don't 'get it' ?

It was your choice to move in with Paphos peasants; I never see that kind of behavior here in Nicosia! As a general rule of thumb you should NEVER take up residence where you once took your holidays!

You’re like someone moving to a Texas town and wondering why rednecks are so…
