On a lighter note - they've just introduced these round here:

Can you honestly see the people responsible for what you see above and what you see here below (not 6feet away from the new blue one) USING THEM appropriately?

Image

They can't even be bothered most of the time to open the bin and put their rubbish inside it (I suspect they don't like touching dustbins, like they don't like picking up dogshit). There is often more bags of rubbish clustered round the Mothership Wheelie than there are inside it.

These were on Makenzy beach. The ones down my road are spaced in between the ordinary wheelies. They are treated like 'just another bin'.

They've only been here a week or so. They tried them in Limassol some years back and no one used them properly where I lived off Makarios.

The guy that operates the scrapyard took all his old shite over to the new blue one a couple of days ago. I bet he's delighted they've put one right outside his yard.

They should institute the draconian measures they have in the UK, such as fining people for putting their bins out 30 minutes early!

At least they collect rubbish twice a week here and not once a fortnight!

Realistically speaking, in a hot country like Cyprus is twice weekly sufficient? Only asking.

Yes it is Deniz, but I have experienced in the UK where once a week wasn't enough (OK, not that often, but it does get hot there sometimes).

I appreciate that once a week collections in London are sometimes not enough, but the climate in Cyprus is another matter.

Every two days here. Disgraceful two week wait in Devon with three weeks for some of the FIVE assorted bins you had.

I doubt they could apply the same sort of rules and measures here. Brits are very possessive about their bins! Here it's a bit of a free for all where wheelie bins are concerned.

Not so easy to impose a fifty quid fine on the person who put the small piece of wood or textile into the wrong bin when the bin is used by so many households!

I do think they should have thought about EDUCATION first with this new system. No leaflets or pamphlets to explain. There are round globe ones too for bottles.

Unfortunately, none of them are rowed up together. People (when they can be bothered to put anything in the bin) will just use the nearest one.

Of course some of these extra bins are taking up valuable PAVEMENT PARKING space.

There were plenty of leaflets about explaining what to do, but not in Punjabi like they would be in the UK!

Didn't get any here. Mind you they might have been yanked out of the postboxes by the 'postbox police' - helpful souls who whip all the junkmail out of everyone's box and chuck it (down on the ground usually). I think I've lost quite a few post office slips informing me of parcels like that.

In the UK, they get the leaflets and still get it wrong. Its fascinating watching the bin inspectors examining the bins and how many 'warning' notices are issued.

We were once the proud owner of a small front garden resplendent with exotic flowers and my now deceased loquat tree. Had to dig up the garden to make room for the multicoloured bins. Aaaaargh!!!! Not allowed to keep them on the pavement or footpath next to our house.

Their mistake was to assume common sense with these giant labels...

Litter is one thing but dumped rubbish is another, there sadly is much of it in the countryside I can go out now and spend a few hours taking lots of pics, BUT lets be honest here, we pay very silly amounts to the municipalities for rubbish collection per year, and the dustbinmen here are fantastic, the heat, the amount of collections, etc and they ALWAYS do it, the answer is pay more then we can get the dumped rubbish, litter, millions of scrap cars, graffiti etc etc dealt with on a daily basis, it will soon be all gone. If those who could paid double or more on the island the money would easily cover the costs, its just political will. The costs to us still really small imo, those poorer who can,t afford it would naturally be exempt.

But it is unsightly and quite a bad problem now. But we have to pay more then educate those that dump it that they are costing us more in taxes like so :2guns:
