Typical monthly charge €65-80 for an 8x4 pool, plus you will be paying for the pump electricity and water top ups.

It is hard to quantify how much a pool will cost to run; partly it depends upon hoiw exposed it is to the sun and wind, alos your elevation (ambient temperature).

I would guess chemicals (Chlorine, PH+/-, algicide and floculent) cost about €200pa, you will need to run the pump for, say, 6-8 hours a day in the summer and 4 hours in the winter, then there is the testing kit etc.

I have had pools in this country and in one where it requierd to be heated; all I will say is that if you attempt to cost/justify a pool, you would not bother. However, to be able to dive in at 2am on a hot summer night is priceless.

Lana
Agree with most of the above, exept winter time, I dont use the pool December - March/April, so dont turn the pump on(as long as PH and Chlor levels are correct).

Thanks a lot

(pool is like a medium one, 4 meters by 8 meters, 2 m deep)

(Also: looking for property to rent in Nicosia, would be glad to get some numbers of reliable and trustworthy agents. Thanks!)

Approx 100 Euros yearly provided:
1. Install a salt chlorinator.
2. Install solar pool pump.

Optional pool solar heater (made in Israel) will enable year round pool use.

But Selina is only renting the property, so i doubt whether she will want to spend significant money on enhancing the facility.

ttoli does not run their pump during the winetr months; well that is an option but a dirty does not look too good, unless a pool cover is installed - which again Selina will not want to buy in a rental. And of course you have a substantial task to get the pool up and running the next Spring

Agree with Lana on the last point - where I am they opted to keep the pool open and maintained all year, rather than close it down during winter on account of the huge task of the initial clean when opening it again - sometimes had to be emptied right out. I've seen the pool cover go under during torrential rain.

I don't know anyone who only spends €100 a year on pool maintenance.

Check water charges too...

In Pissouri it is not allowed to use potable water to top-up your pool... Consequently you have to buy it from a tanker at €10 per tonne.

If you don't have a pool cover you can lose €30 per day in the right conditions...

If a salt chlorinator & a solar pool pump is installed the maintenance bill will go even below 100 Euros per year. It is well known that the electrical energy required by the pool pump motor along with the A/C are the two biggest loads of the house. Add the pool chemicals and, there you have it... large yearly bills to keep up with the pool maintenance.

And yes, tenants should not upgrade pool equipment unless agreed upon with the landlord. But other CF members who do own their own pools should consider these upgrades, especially the salt chlorinator option which has a payback of approx 2 years.

Do you know more than 90% of Australians have installed the salt chlorinator in their pools? Probably not...
