A real life story . It happened today !

Postby miltiades » Sun Oct 03, 2010 5:19 pm

I don't work Sundays in fact I treasure my one day a week off work but when a good friend and customer telephoned me this morning and asked if we could deliver a couple of cases of glass washer detergent I agreed and said i would deliver it my self . Metin runs the Bar 61 restaurant in streatham south London along with Ibrahim his father and two brothers
Ibrahim who us his late 70s came to the Uk in 1974 following the Turkish invasion , met him then and remained friends , he speaks fluent Greek , a very jovial man and a true Cypriot .
Made my way to his bar but first I had to stop at Liddl for some flowers and figs which are so delicious and priced at 19p each good value!
As I waited for the traffic to turn into Liddl I couldn't help noticing a man in his forties along with a younger man and a woman , o noticed the older man had a long beard , nothing unusual in that norbury after all is a predominantly Muslim area so bearded men and covered women in black is a common sight, however the older guy was wearing a hat and what I thought it was a raso !!!
Turned into LIddl parked my car and proceeded to the entrance where I ce face to face with these three people , I was surprised but convinced that the man was a Cypriot priest καλημέρα σας I said as the man looked at me
redying himself to ask a question ,καλημέρα he replied joined in by the younger man and the woman ,μα εισέ Κυπρεος he asked looking perplexed ,
not only κυπρεος I replied but παφητις
do you know he asks where Άγιος Νεκτάριος church is ?
Well I replied you are a long way away the church is in Battersea know it well I got married there .
How did you get here I asked , got the bus he said ,where from I asked , Chelsea harbour he replied !!!
The church is close by Chelsea harbour,
how on earth did you get here I asked !!
Apparently the couple and their son Demetris arrived here a few days ago in order to see their don settled into a university and Demetris is staying at a students hall in Chelsea .
What are you doing coming to liddl I asked , for something to eat πατερ χριστόδουλος replied and to use the toilets !!!!
Well you can get something to eat I said but toilets are not provided at this store , my shop is 2 minutes away you can use the toilets there.
How can we get to Chelsea from here ο πατερ με ρωτά
don't worry I said I will drop you there , since being on my own my Sundays can be rather lonesome so driving a priest his wife and son to Chelsea was no problem , he came from Aχνα village and now he is the priest in λιβάδια
he couldn't believe that I would drive them to Chelsea and kept saying that God had sent me!!!!!!
Talked a lot on the way there and with his permission I post this little true story !!!

FFS don't start a "LiDl opening soon" thread or this could become the Cyprus Dying Forum!

I used my iPhone for the post, as I do now , although I later corrected spelling errors on my pc .
I would never discuss religion with children or priests
or indeed with people whose feelings I believe would be offended by ....the truth.
Ibrahim did indeed get his delivery , both he and two of his sons who were at the restaurant welcomed me and were genuinely pleased to see me .
The priest and I discussed the Cyprob and I was so happy that he expressed views which are exactly on par with mine, further more I was rather pleased to hear that he preaches love and understanding and not anti t/c speeches . He touched the Toxni massacre and expressed his disgust at the events that took place on august 14 1974 he also put the blame squarely on the fanatics from both sides .
I did ask his permission to post our meeting and he said that on his return to Cyprus this coming Wednesday he would visit CF .
I hope he does .
The moral of the story is that I , Yiannis Miltiades Savvides , derive immense pleasure at encountering fellow Cypriots here in the UK
and I'm so proud of being one of them , a Cypriot .
No comments on spelling errors please !!!

Re Milti,

I will be coming to London next November for two weeks. I reckon you wouldn't mind providing free shelter and food for your fellow Cypriot kurupetos! :D
