...there are some things which are universal. language is one of these "things" which survive when they are being used. here it was that in France there were Germans who spoke French. and in this view Napolean III defined a State by its glory, not by a Race; this is the Birth of Nationalism.

...thus it was for the great Ataturk who lead the Nations of Turkey into a State that was Turcophone, a Nationalist of equal stature, who I believe remains betrayed, in essence by the Kemalists who remained, because they failed to find their Unity in the diversity of Turkey as a Political Geography; representing Universal Values. Instead starving any identity other than Turkish, they serve the notion that the State is one Nation.

...what does this have to do with Cyprus you might ask? It is the Modern Ideas of these men understood: we are as Individuals equal in one State, while as Persons we are free to sustain our own distinct Identities. These ideas are the root of their efforts, to define and give meaning to these Principals, ironically Bicommunal.

...our leaders failed us after the First World War. They failed us by ignoring what a whole generation of young men gave their lives for: an end to war amongst Men, a recognition of the powerful emotion of Hate, and a direction more toward real enemies such as Hunger, Ignorance, and Disease.

If we as People allow ourselves to be manipulated, it will be this National interest, our Language, from it, within and without, our differences will be used to divide us. ...as is done between the Jews and the Arabs, without an ethno sphere, and a willingness to care for it, we become less Human.

...this will be our choice, if by silence we allow the agenda to be set by others, here on this island. i ask all its citizens to give of their Grace so that if it is to be divided, it is not quite simply to tear it in two. our Problem is not "Greek" vs. "Turk", it is the Right for these dwellers as Cypriots, to remain the Stewards of this land, Sovereign in Representing its interest. there are many voices to be heard, of what remains of our living Patrimony, there are Maronites and Armenians, as well as Romes. And what of the living Patrimony to come? (the population of Cyprus is around 12 million) The issues are for more complex, Tolerance, and a demonstration of this Will are the need; for all Mankind. On a much bigger scale, we must become prepared to confront the forces of Nature (with ocean acidification and global warming) in a global network of regions, where in ours Israel and Turkey with us, communicate allied toward this and other larger goals.
