How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I've already been through this with one misguided forumer; so, if you can find the quote where he allegedlly used those words, be my guest because I have read the original transcript of the speech and they are nowhere to be found, manually or by search engine.

So go ahead, disher of "bitter truths", find the original quote instead of feeding the frenzied masses!

No he didn't call them 'motherlands', he called them 'mainlands'

“The two so-called main lands, in fact, invaded, both..."

Anyone but a 3yr old gorilla would know he was referring to Greece and Turkey.
Yesterday, Stefanou reminded that it was Cyprus’ president at the time, Makarios, who first used the term in respect to the involvement of the Greek junta in Cyprus.

“Makarios, in his speech at the UN General Assembly on July 19, 1974, used the word invasion five times regarding the junta’s intervention in Cyprus and the coup,” Stefanou said.

And if I am the 'misguided forumer' you refer to as having 'had it out with'.

I don't have anything OUT with you. I disagree with almost every word you post - I can sometimes be arsed to post disagreeing. Most of the time I read your racist hate garbage and laugh and don't bother posting. (Can always catch up and respond to several at the same time later!)

You end up disagreeing with just about everything you post yourself, given a bit of time (you obviously forget what you've said very quickly).

Would it have killed you to provide a link to the transcript for those too stupid to find it themselves?

Why the furore anyway? Didn't Makarios (lauded by so many here) say the same thing at the time?

The coup did not come about under such circumstances as to be considered an internal matter of the Greek Cypriots. It is clearly an invasion from outside, in flagrant violation of the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.

And he thanked the British (who helped him run away!)
I am grateful to the British Government, which made available a helicopter to pick me up from Paphos, transfer me to the British bases, and from there by plane to Malta and London. I am also grateful to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and to the Commander of the Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus for the interest, which they had shown for my safety. My presence in this room of the Security Council was made possible thanks to the help given to me by the British Government and the representatives of the Secretary-General, Dr. Waldheim, whose keen concern for me and for the critical situation which developed in Cyprus moves every fibre of my heart.

I like this viewpoint (taken from another discussion about it)

Blaming it all on Turkey would be like blaming the Falkland war on Britain rather than on a desperate attempt by the Argentinean junta to shore up the popularity of their dictatorship.

All the hapless Pres Christofias did was to say what most of the rest of the world think. Whether they say so 'officially' or not.

And now he has caused a 'furore' lol!

Why don't you ask the threadmeister, "revolver", to supply the specific source on which he initiated this thread:

According to the Greek Cyprioty press, Christofyas has said "both of the motherlands occupied Cyprus and all guarantor countries played 'bad' roles in Cyprus."
I don't now if this is true or wrong, if he told that.
that is what we read at the translation of greek press.

Where is the source of which you speak, revolver?

Are you talking of English translations from Greek translations of manually recorded English transcripts delivered by a native Greek speaker? Or, do you have the President's speech notes?

Funny, i posted this on another thread regarding the same thing...
had posted it twice before Barney Rubble crawled out of his cave and in his usual jovial manner complained of no source. He had to look for himself.....strangely no comment on the contents of the speech though.
Paphitis swore it was Maks personal guard that spirited him away in a chopper that they had hanging around..wonder who told him that?? :D

Judging by the quality of that initial post, I'd say revolver's done well enough just to get around to signing up to the forum and making a post. From each according to their ability, and all that...
