Moving over to Cyprus in April next year hoping to make some friends and reading all the do's and don'ts.

We are a couple in our early 40's with a 3 yr old son (wtf at 40 I hear you say!) and would appreciate good advice on areas to live etc we need to be within 40 mins driving to Paphos airport as i will be using it alot :(

Look forward to meeting some of you :D

I'd recommend Limassol. I've lived here 21 years and have to say I prefer it to all other areas. It has numerous nice beaches, close to all other cities, good schools, multi-cultures, industrial base, night life, etc., etc. Limassol is the up and coming city in Cyprus with the biggest shopping mall on the island, a couple high rise luxury apartment complexes in progress, and soon to have a marina that will be the envy of the entire Med. Let's not forget the world famous Wine Festival. Never mind, enough said. Forget the Wine Festival!

Wouldn't recommend Paphos as it is pretty much a tourist place with a pretty rocky coast line. Larnaca - no way, Nicosia, nice but no beach and too far from Paphos airport.

Good luck and congrats on the three year old.

It depends on whether you will need to work or not and what kind of lifestyle you are after. Different places are suited for different people and different needs. There is no place which is best for everything. By the way, why just Paphos airport? From Larnaca there are no flights to where you will be going?

If Paphos Airport is important, then agree a young family would do well to look at Limmassol, not the most attractive of towns, but when was the last time any of us saw an attractive CY town? ... but it'll have all the facilities a young family will grow to need. If not Lim'sol itself may be worth looking at one of the commuting villages near there just to the west, Paphos Airport side, one near the Highway to the airport.

Oh and welcome to CF C.

I think you will find one of them works for EasyJet, so no need for work.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your move over to Cyprus next year. In your position,I would rent something in Paphos for a short time and travel the Island (wont take long) and pick out a few areas you like the look of and that have the things you want. All areas have things in their favour but "one man's meat is another one's poison" so no-one can really decide for you.We live in a village south west of Paphos and it has everything we need and more and lovely beaches and historical sites very close. We can get to the airport in 30 minutes traffic being quiet and 40 minutes if busy.We have been to Limassol and it has a lot going for it but if you read some of the comments about crime and boy racers etc it does not sound as peaceful as we would want.Further inland is cooler in summer "Troodos mountains" and very Cypriot so more like being part of the island culture.
It really depends on what sort of lifestyle you want and enjoy but rent first and when you feel settled you may want to buy.Good luck in your quest.

Bravo CBBB! nearly got it! I work in UK and need to get off at Luton near to work and obviously use EasyJet :D I buy flights 6 months in advance so it is very cheap for me, and of course I am a speedy boarding plus card holder

many thanks to you all for your replies I am impressed already! We like village areas, the one we are in at the moment is wonderful no one speaks English and we have grape festivals too and then get free year round tspirou,

We wont consider buying until we have decided if it right for us, in the mean time all your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Do you have cess pools that need emptying or is the drainage system communial and included in the local taxes (is it seperate charge or included in the electric bill like Thessaloniki?)

again many thanks :D
