Those of us who managed the building of our houses ourselves used 4” pipes throughout and thus don’t have any toilet paper problems.
Ignorant and incompetent buyers (mainly Brits) encourage ignorant and incompetent builders/developers.
I can put paper down my loo and anyone could if they paid to sort the problem. My point is - and always has been - that you cannot in most 'public' establishments on the island (including the new airport) these awful 'no paper down the pan' signs everywhere and the grotty bins or buckets in even quite upmarket restaurants and hotels.
And how wonderfully well that goes down with visitors.
As for your 'Brits' comment. That's right - true blue Cyp - Defend the indefensible, or BLAME SOMEONE ELSE! The philosophy of
'not my fault miss - a big boy made me do it'. Did the Brits build all the old traditional Cyp houses? Did they build all the Cyp Tavernas? How nice of them to do that for you. Even newly built modern european cafes where you frappachino drinking modern EU Cyps while away your time on your laptops wearing your fake designer clobber have the signs up!
They should incorporate the lovely sign into the Cypriot flag and have it shown on every travel brochure page relating to Cyprus until they get it sorted.
Treat yourself to a laugh and visit travel forums where the poor sods think it is just a language translation problem and quite hilarious! They think it must mean not to throw any OTHER sort of papers down the pan (newspapers, toilet seat covers) Until it is explained to them - they they are mostly disgusted and turn to talking about how unhygienic and smelly and unbelievable this is! One I am writing on this morning has a contributor who said they'd rather find the bushes than even go INTO the small cublicle containing a bin fully of used bog paper.
Here's one where the owner obviously couldn't afford the usual sticker. The worst are the handwritten ones
You are so used to it you just cannot see how it appears to visitors!
