Why don't you ever talk about peace?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

“ENGAGE – Do Your Part for Peace” launched a media campaign yesterday to coincide with the International Day of Peace. The “ENGAGE – Do Your Part for Peace” project is currently being implementing by the Management Centre and the NGO Support Centre in South Cyprus and supported by the United Nations Development Programme.

Speaking at an event organized to promote the new campaign, the Director of the Management Centre Bülent Kanol provided detailed information about the new campaign which aims to attract more support to the project.

The overall aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of civil society and to provide a vehicle for members of the two communities to play a role in the reconciliation process.

Halil,

you still don't get it, do you?

For as long as you occupy our homes and lands and have Turkish troops here and turkey overshadowing us, you haven't got a dogs chance in hell for any peace.

Don't you have no shame, you call for pseudo peace whilst at the same time occupying my home.

You have no chance.

Many decades ago we hadn't "occupied" your homes and lands, neither we had Turkish troops nor Turkey supposedly overshadowed "us"... Howbeit, we hadn't peace... Why? What was then the problem? The "remnants" Ottoman empire were still in Greek island Cyprus and struggling against Enosis?

This is because you always had partition aspirations and were working with the British and Turkey to full fill them. Thats why we had no peace. 40 years later, not only do you still strive for this dream you also hold us by blackmail with our homes and lands and then you have the audacity to talk about peace.

I'll tell you what, I'll hold a loaded gun to your head and demand you speak about anything I ask, would you refuse??? No, perhaps under those conditions you would reconsider.

The Eroglu talks are a farce and we GC community are even more stupid I am ashamed to say, for even going along with them. We should have demended in the outset, removal of Tr troops and settlers and full return of refugees to their properties BEFORE we sat down at the table. This would be akin to removing the loaded gun.

I have to hand it to you though, your tenacity to get whats not yours and still blame us and make us the bad guy.

When will you look forwards instead of backwards?

BI-COMMUNAL BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

Bi-communal Business Partnership Grant Programme, currently worth 192 thousand Euros, has been introduced within the framework of the Economic Interdependence Agreement.
The purpose of the project is to promote awareness on the benefits of economic integration and interdependence between the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots. Delivering a speech at the meeting at the Chateau Status Restaurant in the buffer zone, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce Günay Çerkez said the aim is to help the achievement of a peaceful solution in Cyprus and allow Turkish Cypriots get their place within the European Union, by bringing the two peoples of the island together for joint economic initiatives.
“It’s a win-win situation” he said.

The President of the Greek Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Manthos Mavromatis, for his part, referred to the symbolic importance of the meeting that coincided with the 21st of September the United Nations Peace Day and said mutual benefits to be gained through bi-communal cooperation among the business communities are a step forward towards peace in Cyprus.

Later, the Project Coordinator Umut Vehit provided information about the project and told the audience that it is aimed at promoting awareness on the benefits of economic integration and interdependence.
A representative from the Greek Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Leonidas Paschalides then informed participants about the filling of the application form.

The project on Bi-communal Business Partnership envisages the organization of joint events and grant programmes to promote economic integration for the two peoples of Cyprus.
The deadline for the submission of applications is the 30th of November.

The 21st of September, International Day of Peace was observed yesterday. A candlelight ceremony was held last night in front of the Ledra Palace hotel in the UN controlled buffer zone to mark the day.

Speaking at the event, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim reiterated the United Nation’s support to a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus Problem.

She said that since 1964, UNFICYP had been playing a special role in fostering peace building and cooperation in Cyprus such as its support to the Committee on Missing Persons which has unearthed the remains of 700 individuals and have identified over 250 missing persons as well as the United Nations Mine Action Centre for Cyprus which has thus far cleared over 25,000 landmines on the island.

The event came to an end with the lighting of candles and a minutes silence for all those who died for world peace.
