The only reason that this didn't happen is that foreign imperialists with their troops and their settlers used force and blackmail to prevent the Cypriot people from achieving their right of self-determination and uniting, if we wanted, with the rest of Greece.
Beyond that, the Greek troops did not make any "invasion" but were part of a coup, like the many coups that happened in Turkey. Maybe another country would be excused to invade Turkey and ethnically cleanse 1/3rd of its population using one of the many coups that happened in Turkey as an excuse?
That is one of the lamest excuses ever.
Invasions were those made by the Turks. Both in their first invasion in 1570 when they butchered 20.000 Cypriots in Nicosia alone and then occupied Cyprus for 3+ centuries against the will of the Cypriot people, and their second invasion in 1974 when they killed 1000s of Cypriots, ethnically cleansed the native Cypriots population from 1/3rd of Cyprus and replaced them with yet more Turkish settlers.
I am Cypriot.
Yes, my mother is Greek Cypriot, my cousin is Greek Cypriot, and I have a Turkish-Cypriot friend who I keep in touch with over FB. My nationality is English Cypriot, I have some Swedish-Cypriot friends and a French-Cypriot friend.
There are German Cypriots, and no doubt even a few Nigerian Cypriots around.
Ethnic minorities exist everywhere. So what exactly is your point?
There are a ton of ethnic minorities in London. Did London stop being English because minorities which are not English live there?
By the way, there is no such thing as "English Cypriot" nationality
I'm happy that you are proud of your Greek lineage, but don't keep beating me over the head with it - it's a sign of insecurity.
How did I "beat you" with anything when my reply above was not even directed to you?
Just as you'd like to give us minority status is it not our right to
demand our own sovereignty? Given that we're the "Ottoman remnants" and are used to rule rather than be ruled, lead rather than be led it is perfectly natural to desire this.
Sovereignty on stolen land?
How turkish is that?
With all due respect, you caused the division of the island. I know you'll turn around and deny this but this is the reality of the matter.
How else do you see a solution when the 2 communities detest one another? Lets be honest, just look at the posts exchanged between us here, can you see or feel any love or respect on these pages? I've just had a brief look and the amount of hatred is mind boggling.
I hate the idea of separation saddens me and I really want a lasting, peaceful end to this all but for the life of me cant see how its going to be achieved.
And you show your love by supporting the stealing of our lands and the violation of our most basic human and democratic rights?
You give hate, you get hate back. What else did you expect?
If you wanted the hate to end then you would support that
all Cypriots should get the 100% of their properties and the 100% of their human and democratic rights, and be equal citizens without the racist discriminations you are imposing in Cyprus for centuries.
We are forgiving people and we can forgive you for what you did in the past and even for the crimes you commit at this very moment against us, as long as you finally stop committing them. So the continuation of the hate is really your choice, not ours, since you are trying to find any lame excuse imaginable to continue with your hateful actions against us. (and please don't tell me you expect to be loved by us while you commit crimes against us!)
