First Home Owner

Postby venusdee » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:57 am

Hi does any one have an idea how the Grant/Benefit/VAT Refund for first time Home Owners work? I have been given the run-around for 6 months now, but am still in the dark. I bought a re-sale home, it's my first home and I am a polytechnic mum, intitially I was told I could apply for a Grant since I had many children, then I was told I could only receive this grant if I bought in a certain area, then I was told I could reclaim back the VAT even though it was a re-sale if the original owner paid the VAT. All so confusing....

The first step is to get a refugee card which will be requested when you apply for the first home owner’s scheme.

Next, you need to lodge the form "Edisi gia horigia gia tin anergesi i agora kainourgias katikias" AFTER you've moved in the new house/apartment and acquired 2-3 phone and electricity bills which you must include as evidence that you live there.

Once approved you can get the first 10% back of the VAT paid -in other words you end up paying just 5% VAT instead of 15%.

Here's the relevant website...

You do not need to be a refugee to get the VAT.

First and foremost was the house liable for VAT??

If so, if the previous owner had it, you cannot get it.

If he pays back what he was not due, you can claim a propoertion of the total amount.

You will need the assistance of the developer and his architect to sign papers, give you plans and so on.

It you are talking about grant aid due to having many children thats another matter.

You should go to the housing federation and seek advice there for this.

Hi thank you Both

I have a form that was completed by the architech and the developer, which I submitted with the electricity and water bills, as well as other documentation, from my understanding the previous owner did pay VAT they however used the house a couple of times as a holiday home and then decided to sell, initially I was told that I could apply for a Grant with my politechnic card, however I had to buy a house with title deeds in certain areas, then they mentioned something about brodi gatikia, now they are saying that because the house is a re-sale I am not entitled to anything....

If the Grant/Benefit was there to assist first home owners then why would there be a clause that the house should be new, this clause would have been put there to help Developers which doesn't make sense...
