The 7th crossing point between the Northern Cyprus and South Cyprus is planned to be opened on the 14th of October. This was announced by Kudret Özersay, TRNC President Eroğlu’s Special Representative who told the TAK news agency that the gate will be opened on the 14th of October, if everything goes well.
Özersay said that the gate will be inaugurated by Eroğlu and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias at a ceremony, which is also expected to be attended by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stephen Füle.
The opening of the Yeşilırmak Gate will also allow controlled crossings into Erenköy(Kokina), which is a TRNC territory surrounded by Greek Cypriot territory from three directions, and the Mediterranean, to the north.
There are currently 6 crossing points in Cyprus, 3 in Nicosia and 1 in Gazimağusa, 1 in Beyarmudu and 1 in Bostancı, which enable mutual crossings between the north Cyprus and South Cyprus.
