Vourkastos or Fourkastos?

Postby kafenes » Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:04 pm

I need some info about this Cypriot word. It is Vourkastos but in some villages it is pronounced Fourkastos. Does anyone know which one is correct, what does it mean and where does it originate from? It is used for 'in a rush' or 'in a hurry' but don't know if either of these are correct.

"Erexen bou dame fourkastos!" ...we say!

Foushekki!

Mind you, the "Vourka" may have something to do with it...

It's the old shepherd’s leather "clutch bag"! I’m sure you remember them…

When the word was mentioned with 'kelles' by kurupetos, I thought it might have meant something else.

Always viewed a "vourka" (or fourka) as a sort of duffle-bag... or a ruck-sack.

As to "fourkastos" ... yes def someone who's in a rush.

I thought "vourka" meant your cheeks, what you could hold in your mouth sort of thing :?

... a mouthful?
