Unfortunately, our leaders seem to spend all their energy negotiating the power-sharing arrangements instead of the land-sharing arranagements (and how these will be enforced) - when even a child can see that the former will collapse shortly after we give away control of the RoC while the latter will be all that is left after the dust settles..

what is your opinion of cypriot attitudes to a agreed partition.I live and work in NYC.AT the greek orthodox archdioces and work with many greek cypriots old and young to a man they would rather live with a agreed partition than anything close to the annan plan. Also in the same breath however they would like for this to all end.36 years they say is to long and i know that many on this board will crucify me for writing this but people in the real world are more realistic and pragmatic.

Boulio ... I think that the latinos in the US should create their own state in the current State of california encompasing half of Los Angeles which will become their Country's Capital .............. if you think this is fair themn you support the partition of Cyprus.

That's handy, so a few years after you 'Done a Runner' from Cyprus (because the introduction of National Service was about to occur) and all the youth would be required to serve their country (except those who 'Scarpered') you decided to purchase property here, in the land you NOW say you love so well.

I don't suppose you lived in it long enough to qualify for conscription though, you must have laid awake sweating whenever you visited Cyprus, watching the calendar in case you overstayed a day or two.

So, even at the tender age of fifteen years, you had already developed a strong sense of 'Self- Preservation' and decided to join the side which seemed to be the stronger (at the time) opting for the 'Bosom' of mother UK for protection from the horrors of 'Gunsmoke'.

With a C.V. like yours mate, 'I' would be inclined to steer clear of Cyprus, you might one day come face to face with 'Gitanes' (a hero of YOUR time) who now hobbles on sticks as a result of his injuries but remembers a young skinny 'Skata Savva' who ran like a rabbit before many shots were fired.

Strangely enough, 'Skata Savva' was a local from around your part of the island all those years ago, I wonder if YOU knew him ?.

Hey stupid , fuck off !!!

I take it then, that you DID know the chap ?.

did i say i support the partition of cyprus?what i say is to be pragmatic and realistic.living with the status quo is not working and every day that passes i believe cements that.living under a annan type plan is even worse than partition.

and you know what if facts on the ground dictate california being mexican you now what in 30-40 years it might become that:

Is it worth even responding to such a proposal?

Boulio has a good point.....

The status-quo is no longer viable so the question is whether the people here would prefer partition or a solution along the lines now being negotiated?Don't forget that even hardliner Papadopoulos said he openly supported the earlier versions of the Annan Plan, but of course this may have been his ploy based on the presumption that Denktash would turn it down......I have lived in other divided countries and they were not happy places though. If the Greek-Cypriots naively opt for this it will be a tragedy but in any case, then I will leave and find somewhere else to live...there are plenty of places!

Nikitas wrote:Well informed sources today sid the TC proposals tabled by Eroglu for the properties issue were as follows:

The returned properties will be a 15% maximum of the total.

The rest, 85 per cent, will be compensated.

Compensation will be paid out of the federal compensation fund.

The GC community will contribute 80 per cent to the federal compensation fund and the TCs will contribute 20 per cent.

In other words the GCs will be taxed to pay their compensation for loss of their properties.

Some people who post in this forum no doubt will call this proposal realistic and warn us to accept it because the next one will be worse. How can paying money inorder to lose your property permanently be worse than the present situation is a mystery. Obviously Eroglu is a master at making the reverse of an offer we cannot refuse, he knows how to make an offer we cannot accept.

If true, turkish spokesperson Eroglu must surley be nominated for the Nobel peace price for coming up with this piece of genius.
