John and Anthony Stoupakis recounted the tragic moments when they were expelled. This marked the beginning of the end for the Greeks of Constantinople. The "events of September" have organized efforts of the Turkish state to intimidate and eventually expel the Greeks of Constantinople. 4200 houses, 1,000 shops and 73 churches destroyed in the night of September 6, 1955, to "cause" the provocation bomb the house of Kemal Ataturk in Thessaloniki.

John Stoupakis with his family hid in their homes to escape the frenzied crowd and were finally expelled in 1964.

The family of John Stoupaki lived in Pera. His father had a small butter factory in the same area where most of the shops owned by Greeks.

"In 1955 I was 17 years old and belonged to the Athletic Association of Pera, who had many awards and great story ... Around eight in the evening of September 6th I went to a workout club and started to walk with other unsuspecting Greeks to the large road, "he says.

Guided
"In the first corner I see a group of around 50 people with sticks and crowbars in their hands. With them was a gentleman in a suit and black tie who guided them. With my eyes I saw the butcher a friend of my father, which was still open. They broke the windows of the shop window, threw the meat on the street, the objects of the restaurant ... Terror everywhere. Tremor is reinforced by the fact that the police have not intervened in any case ...».

The 17 year old Greek athlete continued to record the general picture of destruction. "In the main street of Pera, groups broke Greek stores. Two of three individuals are guided. The police and gendarmerie have done nothing, "he explains.

They broke into the church of Agia Triada and Hall. Between Greek and Turkish shops were, for leaning. They had to steal, to plunder, to break and dismember the Greek property. The whole road was like a dump ... The crowd shouted slogans "Cyprus is Turkish and will stay Turkish.

Hid in the well
At home the family had sought refuge Stoupaki the then Metropolitan of Pergamon, Adamantios. "It was my mother's brother and him feared, not harmed," he says Mr Stoupakis. "At about 11.30 at night, mobs came out of our house and shouted" pope pope. They went to get in, but did not succeed. Good-bad, hide my uncle in the tank of our garden ... At about 2.30 we heard knock on the door. He was the partner of my father who was a Kurd and came to protect us ...».

For 72 year old John Stoupaki it is clear that this was organized Turkish plan "which managed to destroy the Greek society. Follow the white genocide of Greeks of Constantinople. In '64 my father was arrested with the accusation of being a spy in Cyprus and deported. And followed by the uprooting of our family ...».

The sound heard VOICES FROM THE ROAD
"Gkiaourides die, Cyprus is Turkish"

Anthony was born in 1943 in the City and the events of September was 12 years. What he saw and survived the night of 6 and on the day of September 7th remember it very well ...

"My father was a wholesaler in a shop near the Golden Horn. We stayed with his family in an apartment building in Galata romaiiki, we belonged, "says Anthony. "In our neighborhood there were about 15 blocks. We had no problem with the Turks. That day I played with my brother in the street. My dad came early and told us to follow him. She cried all the occupants of the building to tell them: a Turkish merchant shop was next to his and was his friend told him to close shop and leave. That is what he did. We closed the door of the building and waited. On the fourth floor, which was our home, we saw what was happening at the beginning of the Bosporus and the main street Loses Top ...

"The sky was red over the Holy Trinity in addition. We knew what was happening. At 8:30 we saw a group of people with sticks in hand shouting "Gkiaourides die. Cyprus is Turkish. The situation was very wild, "he explained. The next day was more painful for the family. "As soon as the curfew ended at 7 this morning, my father rushed into the shop to see what had happened ... When I went to find him, I saw him crying over the ruins ...», he remembers his father was unable to restrain his tears.

This was less than a decade before Turkey first applied for EU membership.

Addendum:

Less than five years.

Turkey applied for an association agreement with the European Economic Community in 1959.

Yialoser you are an idiot!

The government in charge during this incident was overthrown by the army and the prime minister executed. They set Turkey back decades.

The people who committed these crimes were organized from before.

Nothing to do with "Turks", this government was very very corrupt and all this chaos was planned.

Ok then, we can safely say that it was the Greeks who screwed up Cyprus, and not the fascist junta.

And it was the GC's who massacred the TC's and not the EOKA terrorists.

Fair?

Dodging what exactly?

This thread is about the pogrom carried out under the auspices of the Turkish government to rid Constantinople of Greeks and incite the TCs in Cyprus into a nationalistic frenzy -- from which you have not recovered!

If anyone is dodging the subject, it is YOU!
