Cyprus Airways - Eurocypria

Postby CyprusNewsReport » Mon Sep 06, 2010 1:19 pm

Imagine if these were privately owned companies - CA lost 25 million in 6 months and Eurocypria asked for 35 million in May to cover its debts - they'd be shut down overnight.

If it could all be put down to the financial crisis I could be more understanding, but this has been going on for years! I can't even remember the last time CA made a profit.

Taxpayers, we are getting ripped off.

It serves them right for not charging high prices for airfare!

Especially the stingy Brits, they should be charged at least double!

The 'stingy brits' are the main contributors to cyprus' tourism industry gr, and CA charges very high prices compared to other EU airlines.

What a pathetic attempt at blindly damning something purely for being Cypriot without any degree of comparison with similar bodies. Zero marks for research!

Your memory is very poor then since it wasn't that long ago:

"CYPRUS Airways (CY) made a profit for the second successive year in 2008, despite a huge increase in fuel costs and the added financial burden caused by a "tired out" fleet of aircraft, Executive Chairman Kikis Lazarides said yesterday."

And, before I embark on something as unfair and one-sided as you, I believe all the airlines which suffered from the Icelandic Volcanic ashes were afflicted with huge costs. Although, for example, BA's longstanding problems are world-renowned.

Perhaps it's your appreciation of retaining nationalised industries which is at fault. Maybe you are a daughter of "sell everything off Thatcher"!

Going back to the issue at hand… a British War Crimes Levy should be charged to all arrivals from the UK.

This money could go towards helping Iraqi and Afghani refugees.

What a brilliant example of being paranoid about being Cypriot. I didn't comment on this because they're Cypriot, but because they lost a lot of money - 25 million in 6 months. If they made a profit in 2008, trust me it was an aberration.

BA is also pretty inefficient, I don't think anyone would deny that, especially the pilots - who I heard complain over the loudspeaker during a flight about BA.
