The Republic of Cyprus maintains 17 mosques, of which 11 were previously churches

The mosque in Episkopi Limassol was a Byzantine church of St. George. During maintenance, the coating was removed and found Christian frescoes were kept alive and even color. The mosque in Larnaca Touslas 'hosts' the arches of the Byzantine church that was before, while Kepir Limassol was built based on early Christian church, which was discovered during work on the sewer system.

Seventeen mosques in the free areas have been declared Ancient Monuments Panel B, which means that the state assumes responsibility for maintenance and repair. After the 1974 Turkish invasion, the mosques came under the control of the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Antiquities, with a specific budget each year goes to the maintenance and restoration.

Of the 17 mosques, 11 were medieval and Byzantine churches, during the Ottoman period were converted into mosques, with four currently used as places of prayer and worship. These are: Mosque of Umm Haram (Hala Sultan Tekke) in Salt Lake Larnaca, Kepir Mosque in the city of Larnaca, Kepir Mosque in the city of Limassol and Nicosia Omeriye Mosque. periodically and when requested by the T / 't "Work and the Bairaktari Mosque in Nicosia. The three of them, mosques Kepir in Larnaca, Limassol and Kepir in the Omeriye in Nicosia have been granted by the Republic for the religious needs of Muslims living in the free areas of Cyprus. The Umm Haram Mosque (Hala Sultan Tekke) in Larnaca , operated by the state, which pays staff to custody. For the service needs of the faithful during the month of Ramadan, whom we are at the expense of the State remains the Imam for the five prayers of the day to be open for the purpose of prayer from sunrise until sunset and night.

The mosque in Larnaca Kepir, also reported, maintained and operated properly.

The works are hardly and care with respect to religious duties of believers who pray regularly throughout the day, they noted.

From 1975 until 2009, the Cyprus Republic has spent a total of EUR 3,195,561 for the maintenance and restoration of the 17 mosques as Ancient Monuments. The amounts paid by the Department of Antiquities and the Ministry of Interior. Maintenance of Umm Haram Mosque (Hala Sultan Tekke) was within the United Nations with U.S. funding under the agreement for maintenance of the Tekke and the monastery of Apostolos Andreas in the occupied Rizokarpaso. However, maintenance work at the Monastery of Apostolos Andreas have not progressed. After the close of business on Ancient Monuments, Antiquities Department undertakes all work relating to maintenance and cleanliness of rooms.

Complaints made by the so-called administration of religious monuments in the occupied non-maintenance of mosques and Omeriye Kepir Limassol, not true, stated in Mr. Filotheou to talk to non-malicious interference, such as attaching awning to shade the area outside The Mosque and the Mosque Omeriye Kepir in Limassol for the needs of Muslims who use them.

The allegations of graves outside of Limassol Kepir covered with cement has not been confirmed, he said. In the occupied noted Mr. Philotheou, there are religious sites worldwide such as Virgin Lythrangomi Kanakaria in the monastery Antiphonitis Kalograia in the church of St. Themonianos or Effimianos Problem and the monastery of Panagia Apsithiotissas to thank, who have abused .
These long-suffering happening in our island, at the same time in katechomena our lands throughout our heritage destroyed by barbarians. And since the reason stated for spaces where religious worship, to remember the fate of having our own churches, other mosques were other bars or casinos, and other even stalls. The comments again is unnecessary, and each one can draw their own conclusions, but to understand once the degradation we as a people.

All mosques uncovered as being originally Christian Churches should be exposed as such and re-instated. The rest of the "mosques" can be presented as museums of modern history.

It is all part of the neottoman culture tha the supposedly "brilliant" Davutoglu wants to establish. Let him, it is the beginning of the end but they can't see it yet.

I think it shows that Cyprus is a progressive, liberal and responsible nation that recognises the importance of historical evolution. By maintaining mosques and churches and mosques that were once churches it shows to the world that we are a peaceful nation and respectful of our history. It is good to show this with pride. If work on Apostolos Andreas has not yet began because the occupation regime along with the leadership of the TC community prevent such work on an important monument as Apostolos Andreas. It shows to the EU and UN and the international community that the TC leadership and Turkey are on the path of ethnic cleansing
and destroying historical evidence of the development of the Cypriot nation. We need to illustrate this at important meeting such as meeting in Brussels and the UN.
