Good discussion'

NICOSIA - President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu on Friday morning met in the context of direct talks to solve the Cyprus problem and mainly discussed the property issue.
Speaking after the meeting, the UN Secretary General’s Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer said: “The leaders have had a good discussion, predominantly on the property issue” and added they had agreed to meet on September 8 and 10.
“Next week they are going to have two all-day meetings. They have agreed to make a small change, instead of having the two all day meetings on Tuesday and Friday to have them on Wednesday and Friday,” Downer said.
He added that “it is not an important change but it is for logistical reasons and they both wanted to change from Tuesday to Wednesday, and we can accommodate that in the United Nations.
“So we are looking forward to those discussions during the course of next week,” he concluded.
Friday’s meeting of the two leaders focused on the verbal submission of the general positions of each side on the property matter.
Speaking after the meeting, President Christofias said “no documents were submitted” and expressed the hope for “a serious discussion” and to avoid leaks.
“We made verbal references about our general positions on the property issue. The essence is still ahead of us and discussion will begin next week,” Christofias said.
