I was just confused about you believing that you live under a secular system, when clearly, your first ever president was a religious monkey who dressed like a clown.

How does that make you secular?

And why shouldn't a priest stand for president in a free democracy? They have their human rights just like everyone else.

But, Shah, the RoC doesn't subsidise the GO Church. All its commercial ventures are taxed. So in that sense, the RoC is secular.

But the "trnc" set-up, which makes a big song and dance about being "secular", in fact gives official subsidies to your Evkaf/Vakf, despite their personal wealth.

So, yes your taxes do fund your imams etc.

And so do ours ... :?

That has nothing to do with secularism, it is not about where the money goes, it is about the brains who control.

Having a religious leader as your president, truly destroys the whole concept from its core.

And I am not the only one saying it, you are not even listed as one of the secular states of Europe, lets not kid ourselves Oracle, we spoke about this before.

You are anything but secular, you might as well call yourself "Orthodox Republic of Backwards and Racist Cyprus"

If he was voted in by a majority I don't see where the problem lies, except in the minds of those who did not vote for him. That is the same with any elected representative. The problem is in your acceptance that in a democracy not everyone gets their way. Are you happy with your fascist Eroglu, since I believe you did not vote for him?

But, we are debating what is happening today! And of course viewed with the knowledge that the RoC funds an Imam is damning to its hopes of being viewed as 100% secular. But, blessed from above.

I am glad you appear pleased and accepting (certainly not complaining) of the fact that, contrary to your previously stated personal preferences, your taxes do indeed fund your religious bodies. :D Now, take that feeling that "you cannot please all of the people all of the time" and learn to appreciate how greedy your minority demands appear!

The problem lies in using religion to collect votes and support of the religious, which hardly ever equals to anything logical.

Therefore it does not take a genius to know that most votes are given "unconsciously", and democracy become just an art of tricking the blind morons. Religion happens to do just that, very effectively. Laws and actions based on "religious beliefs" is what comes next. So, many smart states have decided to keep them separate.

Meaning, if you have a religious monkey as the leader of the state, you are no where near "secular", in fact you should be banned from even using the word, thats how close you are to secularism, let alone how others view you

Makarios being extremely Christian and us being Muslim, could have played a HUGE part in his decision making, while dragging us into this mess, and it probably did, everything else he openly expressed, are just details.

How stupid can one get, Turkey in the EU, yeah pull the other one mate.

And in the very very unlikely event, that fluke had happened and they did get it, it would only take 1 lt of petrol to put paid to that. So much for your blackmail, plonker.

See? Even an idiot like you can see why there must NEVER be any compromises with Turks, and why UN Resolutions MUST & WILL be enforced one way or another even if it takes 100 years!

Even a 12 year old can see your evil plans to annihilate the indigenous Cypriots!

That’s why they must prepare themselves for all out war, even at great losses because they are doomed if they don’t!

There is at the moment all sorts of builders rubbish and rubble dumped right outside it and graffiti on the walls of the former Halili Restaurant next to it. So that might cheer Lady O up a bit.

I suggest she moves over to Cyprus for, say, even one year and get out and about and then she might learn a little about 'real' Cyprus - not the Cyprus she knows - her ex pat Brit protectorate in Polis. The Mosque in the town centre is in daily use and used in the evenings too (I think as a sort of community centre/meeting place)

Thanks for that info Gasman; obviously our Oracle cannot answer all questions.
