LAWYERS IN CYPRUS ARE NOT OBLIGED TO DO A SEARCH ON THE DEEDS TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY LIENS OR MORTGAGES ON THE PROPERTY"   and herein lies the problem

The problem is all inside your head.

All you have to do is instruct the lawyer to include in the Sales Agreement a paragraph to confirm that all loans/charges encumbrances have been paid.

This article was just the usual scaremongering and anti-Cypriot propaganda.

The couple are still in their home. They have not been left homeless!

Threat has been lifted for now as no bidders, eviction will be delayed, not homeless yet  The original Buyers are also STILL in their home having had NO threats of eviction and NOT paying back any money. Devils spawn that they are :x

Why anti-cypriot? What happens happens here, no scaremongering at all very very true. The system works AGAINST the buyer, in fact is designed to.

As for instructing a Lawyer to include a paragraph in the Sales Agreement........do so and see where it gets you

Its a complete mess.

You know doubt have seen the latest Foriegn Office warning about buying property in Cyprus, tells you its a risk and then proceeds to tell you why, its almost as big as the warning about not buying in the north. although that is illegal, the problems both sides buyers face seem very similar, why is that do you think?

I don,t worry about any who buy there, but here should be safe for the majority.

Its a proven fact that expats will return to the UK, at least 75% will, then the rest follow on later after missing family etc, and for some the poor exchange rate affects life here as it is so costly Most expats will eventually leave as that is how it all works. So those that are stuck here with poor quality housing, no Deeds, cancellation fees(blood money) on any profit (which is highly unlikely) high taxes and fees, have to endure what happens to their Developer IF he goes under, taking their home with him. Makes life a misery for many.

So those who wish to leave are also trapped by the system.

Do tell the authorities O to hurry up and sort it out, then you will get your wish as many will be off. This country used to be heaven for many. This situation has made it hell. Thats niether anti cypriot or propaganda its just a sad fact.

You have a nerve telling anyone as you sit in your castle making hateful and racist comments about anyone or anything connected to the UK or Turkey, your contempt makes you sound positively evil, then any who dares to let you know your country?? is not so pefect gets it. But then the medication kicks in and you go off for a while, so we get some peace.

Thats good news, now can all buyers have the same?

On the list of approved lawyers at the British High Commission we have become aware that one has been complicit in the selling of at least 3 properties twice. He is now under investigation by the police for fraud. Whether anything will come of it no one knows.
Secondly - You might use a solicitor and think that he/she is acting in your best interests, but he/she is not obliged in his conveyancing duties to carry out a search of the property for encumberances. That is something (basic you may think) that you have to seperately instruct him/her to do.

Its difficult to find every buyer and tell them this fact most wrongly assume a Lawyer is acting in your interests, this is only one reason that the ball of string begins to unravel though.

I have my Deeds too but don,t sit complacent about it when others are suffering stress with untold property problems here. Ill health is becoming a problem for those that have constant worries hanging over them.
Legal recourse is a non starter for many as well, the
simplest of cases is going to cost at least 20,000 euros and take in the region of 3-4 years so if the system hasn't already shafted you, legal fees and ill health through stress will. Not many people have that much money sitting around simply to fight for what is theirs anyway.

Lawyers are not charities! They do not work "in your best interests" but they put in as much work as you pay for them to do! Some Brits come here thinking they can cut corners and get something done as cheaply as possible. (Hell, some will buy homes they KNOW belong to others!). They'll by-pass every safeguard that they think they can get away with, rather than pay.

But if you are paying a lawyer top dollar you would surely expect them to work "in your best interest"?

Clearly for many that simply isn't the case here....
