I don’t think much of the Turkish army so I don’t share your fascination/excitement!

Well that will just show your obvious ignorance about world history, or maybe your grudge stops you from comprehending the fact that you would be sitting on the same table with the only country that has managed to fight off joined Imperial forces, on more than one occasion.

And I don't mean it Ghandi style, I mean proper ass whoop

Unless you have the balls and the determination to go Taliban on us, which I know you don't, you have no chance.

Like I said, I don't think much of them...

Immediately after the Turkish invasion the United States Senate sent a team of investigators to Cyprus to write up a report on the consequences of the invasion which included a section titled “COSTS OF THE INVASION TO TURKEY”. An interesting portion of that section follows…

"Nearly 10% of Turkey's military force is now stationed on Cyprus, and there have been heavy logistical and support requirements. Civilian "technicians" and others have also gone to the island. Moreover, there were considerable losses during the invasion. According to responsible military sources in the field, the performance of Turkey's armed forces during the first phase of the invasion was very poor. Although Turkey apparently employed a basic plan its general staff had drafted and perfected over a period of several years, military observers say there was poor operational planning, inadequate communications, and a near total failure of joint operations among Turkish air, sea, and ground forces.

As a result, through tactical errors Turkey lost an estimated 15 aircraft during the invasion. It sank one of its own destroyers. Casualties were considered light, but included some 300 men killed and another 500 wounded. Had there been any substantial Greek Cypriot forces and tanks in the northern part of the island, casualties undoubtedly would have been considerably higher. One military observer suggested, for example, that because the Turkish airborne assault came at too high an altitude, a better organized and equipped Greek Cypriot army could have easily eliminated an entire Turkish airborne regiment swinging helplessly in the air.”

You think it was the Turkish army that brought you down to your knees?

It was Ecevits mustered up forces, against the will of the US. You never had the misfortune to get a taste of the full force.

You really must read more history, and not just Cypriot, which clearly won't take that long, but everyone around you

That's why the "TRNC" is a non starter... the CNG could overrun it in about 2-3 hours... even with the junk Turkey has stationed on it.

Really! Then why don't they do it, after all it is their right to defend their territory form invaders. After all if Morocco invaded and held 1/3 of Spain no one would say the Spanish don't have to right to take it back by force of arm if they choose - so what is stopping the RoC?

The right to liberate Cyprus was never an issue, and our military problem isn't what's already there, but what can and may follow from Turkey. The trick is to deny any further resupplies.

GR have you not just contradicted yourself? you say:

the CNG could overrun it in about 2-3 hours... even with the junk Turkey has stationed on it

Yet also say:

military problem isn't what's already there, but what can and may follow from Turkey. The trick is to deny any further resupplies.

So you are saying that Turkey will be able to resupply the "TRNC", now over run, and the CNG can do nothing about it? This would be a major military operation which would be hard for any country to do, inc the USA, given the the RoC will at this point hold the cost, possibly have the S-300s deployed, and Turkey will have suffered a major military defeat - it will also be attacking a full EU member - in short if the CNG can kick Turkey out of the "TRNC" then Turkey is not coming back.

So this leads me to question, given your assurance of this task being easy, as to why has the RoC not tried it?

:? S300? EU? USA?

I'd rather skip discussing anything "military" with you...

Because we have a stupid defeatist Government which has turned the entire Cyprus Problem from a matter of foreign conquest and occupation to a simple dispute between 2 communities.....

This can not last forever, because if this occupation continues, it is only a matter of time before a nationalistic fascist obtains the mandate to turn the Cyprus Problem on its ear, and when this happens, you better watch out! I suggest you leave the island for your own safety.

That is because only a few fools on this forum would think that it is a "foreign conquest", would take a lot more than a few Facebook groups to convince the world otherwise, because that is not the case...

The UN Resolutions clearly agree that Turkey occupies Cyprus, a Sovereign UN member!

Right! So now that you’ve read what military analysts had to say about Turkey's performance (or lack thereof), you’ve now decided to twist the facts that it wasn't the Turkish army but some other Mujahidins belonging to Ecevit? Image

Well that is a lot different to saying that the problem is nothing but the existence of the army, by totally disregarding the problem of the TC's.

That is no different than saying, "the Cyprus problem has been solved in 74".

Wouldn't you agree?

No! What I am saying is that the paper totally disregards the difficulties Turkey had to face up until she actually managed to go a head with the operation.

That won't be a problem today, and you would face a whole different level of power, compared to 74.

Now, if you are saying that you would put up a better fight than Britain, France, Greece, Italy and Armenia put together, than please go ahead so that we can all laugh together.

If not, then I suggest you keep your historically ignorant "theories" to yourself, because assumptions are made based up on passed experience and not by blind nationalistic pride.

The same goes both ways… today you won’t be dealing with 180,000 civilians confused by the chaos of a coup in the major towns and running for their lives, but a proper military that is properly equipped and a combined reserve that totals 100,000 men!

BIG difference!

Like I said... the trick is to close off the island to deny any further Turkish supplies and your arse is OURS.

Yeh sure Shah! I agree! The Cyprus Problem is not a problem of occupation. Most TCs agree as well, which is why there are only 50,000 left on the island!

Happy?
