How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hey dufus,

Cyprus has been a Christian island for two millenniums now! It’s the Ottoman Muslims that came here UNINVITED in 1570 to spread their death & destruction, not the other way round!

Not only have they murdered hundreds of thousands of our people over the centuries, but they’ve also desecrated 100s of ancient Christian churches in the last 35 years!

WAKE UP!

2 Millenniums?

Never knew the Persians were Christian

Why is that relevant/important? :?

Do you foolishly assume by any chance that Cypriots changed religion with every invader?

Hallo CNR

By the same token, the only reason to remember religion is as a "historical story". However, you correctly point out that the EU protects this " historical story", under rights. Then why not rights for the other "historical story", about 1500s :?:

Need to add in case you are not aware; the Turkish Muslims under discussion are not in the EU.

that's nice!
Hope they develope more tolerance with geologist also.
I have been arrested by turkish army while mapping Morfou areas..!

How can an army arrest you?

Please elaborate.

We were arrested ( for 6 hours ) because we were too close to a military base that was not marked on the map.
Unfortunately we did not have a map recent, only one mapped by the British in 1960. No other maps avalaible after 1974 WHO KNOWS WHY??

The nice thing is that we also went to the police station few days before to explain them where we were going and ask if they could detect the presence of military bases. Everything was ok for them. The morphology of the area (and the whole island in general) has changed a lot (new roads etc ...) so we had some small problem to orient ... :?

I was wearing a camouflage and hung around my neck I had my camera.
I must say that after all we went quite well, if we think that they killed civilians for much less.

Hi lola-tulip - they are not yet in the EU, but they want to be and have gone some way in negotiations - eventually that will mean adopting all EU norms, and one of them is freedom of religion - Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, whatever.

How is this going "some way in negotiations"? Is it more important that they allow some Christians to travel for a day to worship, yet not allow over 180,000 Greek Cypriots to return to their homes? I believe they have gone no way except to make a mockery of negotiations. :!:

I'm not an apologist for Turkey :) and I think it's completely wrong that they have armed forces in Cyprus. Eventually they will have to get them out if they want to join the EU and people with usurped property will get it back either in restitution or in the form of their homes.

But I don't underestimate the EU - their negotiators are not fools.

On the 1570's, my answer is that it is Middle Ages history. I live in 2010.

First of all get your facts right.

Secondly, I know they did, specially during the Ottoman era, because I know people who used to come from Christian families, in person. Ever heard of the Linobambaki's? A lot of them switched religion like underwear, whichever paid most.

Third, your definition of "Cypriot" only extends as far as the Greek speaking Christian population, which is just rotten from the start. Meaning you cannot define a place like Cyprus with such a confusing past, with a single religion.

So no, Cyprus was not always Christian.

I think all religions should be tolerated and accepted - no one has the right to tell you what to believe.

Sure, back in the history of every country there is an example of religious authorities getting over-zealous but modern, developed countries have put a stop to that with the secular state.
