Your existence (if you are Cypriot) is respected since RoC passports are available and taken up by most Turkish Cypriots. Will you be honest about why you do not have an RoC passport with all the benefits it entails?
Maybe your brothers are not as easily dissuaded as you appear to have been or they refuse (secretly) to live under fascism.
"Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has forbidden Turkish Cypriots from applying for Cypriot passports and has been quoted in the north calling on Turkish Cypriots who had Cyprus passports to give them up, warning they would end up "at a loss" if they did not." [Cyprus Mail]
Lola, Eroğlu and everyone else is free to do whatever they wish, his daughters probably wish to study abroad for cheap, good luck to them.
The RoC passport will not bring me any advantages for the moment as I have figured out a way to get by without it anyways, so I am in no rush to get one, and I do not believe they respect my existence what so ever.
Are you talking about you personally? Most other Turkish Cypriots feel respected enough to have one and use its benefits {Eroglu's family}.
I think they only respect you if you are under their hegemony, in my eyes, they dish out those passports as a ticket off the island for most. They have always "encouraged" us to leave, its not new.
Is this why Greek Cypriots are offered these passports?
Hoping to build their long sought ethnocracy, you are only Cypriot if you have blood connection(from the father) and you can only be in the government if you are a GC, that's what fascism is!
I have never heard this before. Are you sure such a practice exists?
As to whatever you say Denktaş says, it is irrelevant. He has no power over the people, no one does regarding these issues, anyone is welcome to cross over and take the passport if they want to and no one can do anything about it, so it is puzzling that someone with his knowledge, would talk such crap.
We are back to a group effort to work out how prevalent a "TRNC passport" is compared to either an RoC passport or the other TC favourites, British or Turkish.
"He [Asil Nadir] must report each week to Chelsea police station, and has already surrendered his Turkish and British passports." [From today's Guardian.]
