Seven Kurds Were Among The Dead in Turkish Flotilla, Qaradaghi
SULAIMANI, Iraqi Kurdistan: 7 of the 9 dead people in the Turkish flotilla carrying aids for Gaza were Kurds from Turkey, said Ali Qaradaghi, Secretary General of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS).
"I have been informed that 7 of them were Kurds,” said Qaradakhi.
Qaradaghi, himself a Kurd, has given the news first to Rudaw during an Interview in Sulaimani in the federal region of Iraqi Kurdistan.
On May 31, a lethal raid was carried out by Israeli commandos in the International waters of Israel, killing nine pro-Palestinian activists after boarding their vessel from a helicopter.
Israel said that it had warned the Turkish government to halt the trip.
The raid has soured Israel-Turkish relations. Israel has refused to apologize.
However, Dawd Baghstani, a journalist writing on Kurdish-Jewish affairs denied the authenticity of the news publicized by Qaradaghi who was elected head of the IUMS in July.
“There was no Kurd in the flotilla,” said Baghstani, editor-in-chief of the Erbil-based ISRAEL-KURD magazine which is published in Kurdish.
