If you are not fimiliar with where your rubbish ends up in the Red soil areas,take a drive to the Sea caves of Cape Greco and see the dump,or the back roads of Paralimni and another smelly dump greets you.Ever driven along the highway and passed Xylophagou,and had to wind your car window up,because of smoke drifting across the highway?
Yes,these are and have been landfill sites for decades.Many neglected hunting dogs and cats are also left to scavage the left overs.This is where the feral animals are born and compete with rats to survive!
A new Recycling plant intends to be built in Ormidhea,this is where the Water treatment and the Electricity Plants are located.(Also a future Lidl warehouse will open,4 kilometers away)
Local people are up in arms in protest,against this new facility being built.I don't blame them,but no body is prepared to have a Rubbish recycle palnt within their back yard.
Currently all rubbish is now being collected in the exisiting land fill sites.
A hugh concrete slab is the collection point and a extendable fork tractor loads the waste each day into a White double trailer truck.It then makes it's way,to Koshi in the Larnaca area,where a multi million Euro plant awaits the arrival to be sorted.It currently takes in all the Larnaca districts.
As the resort areas expand in residency,a new plant has to be in action in the next 24 months.Ormidhea was chosen,and another European Directive has been completed.
