He wrote a book, DT, in which he says a few things about Cyprus. You should read it, despite written by a man with "personal weaknesses". While we are at it, can anybody name anyone that we approved of, from any international institution, that came to lend a hand?

George Stephanopoulos would have the interests of the USA at heart. He is American and America is not a friend of us (according to cretin jargon), remember?

I agree with this. He too will fall foul.

But Bananiot, much of this has to do with the skepticism, mistrust, and the fear of the vast majority as a result of the diabolical Annan Plan.

It is quite understandable that many Cypriots will mistrust the UN, Alexander Downer or whoever else you can think of from 2004 and onwards.

In that case we should look for help from the islamic Conference. Sorry to be cynical, but the Annan Plan was daemonised mainly by the billionnaire media magnets who privat tv and radio stations. All prpoprietors were active members or supporters of EOKA B!

NICOSIA - Archbishop Chrysostomos II has called on UN envoy Alexander Downer to respect the principles of the UN and stop promoting Turkish positions.
He furthermore called on President Christofias to request the removal of Downer from his position if the later ''maintains his detrimental, for our side, stance.''
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 23rd meeting of the Central Council of overseas Cypriot organisations POMAK and PSEKA, and the 5th congress of overseas Cypriot youth organisation NEPOMAK, the Archbishop called for unity of the political leadership in Cyprus and the promotion of positions to tackle Turkish aims, adding that Turkey would withdraw its intransigent positions only if it pays the price in its EU accession negotiations.
The Archbishop expressed fear that ''we have already crossed the safety line and we have become trapped in a countdown concerning our historical existence in the land of our fathers,'' adding that Turkey has been following a policy of no concessions, while the Greek Cypriot side has been generous, in the hope of reaching a settlement.

Paphits
I don't like your tone or sarcasm A.

I think the issue here is that you need to put to one side your own personal ideology, beliefs, perceptions and opinions and stop calling anyone a fascist just because you don't like the politics.

The guy has his own integrity and supporters, and I know he is not in Cyprus just so that he can make another entry into his extensive CV.

Definitely one of the most productive diplomats Australia has ever had! Compare his acumen to any politician in Cyprus at the moment and sadly, even an idiot understands there is absolutely no comparison!!!

This is entirely your opinion and I have mine

I find Downer to be racist, fascist individual and I do believe he has no interests in the fate of the Cypriot people. If you disagree that is fine . View him in the light that you do. I am not prepared to retract anything I have said about the man.

I am also happy to leave the conversation as it stands.

Thank you.

Sounds like an opinion we should listen to.

Why is Downer still pretextly presiding over us finding a solution? Why after all these wasted years is he still the UN envoy? He is as unwanted as rain at a BBQ!

Come on EU - you owe Cyprus big time so exert some pressure and get rid of this man and take over the talks to heal your newly emerging empire ...

THE FUTURE of UN special envoy to Cyprus Alexander Downer looks uncertain after calls from House Speaker Yiannakis Omirou for the Australian diplomat to be replaced.

According to reports, Downer disagrees with the appointment of an EU envoy on the Cyprus issue and has even sent a letter to Commission President Barroso to this effect.

The government would like to see the European Council appoint a special envoy to the talks.

Omirou said that if indeed Downer interfered in the appointment of an EU Cyprus envoy that his behaviour has reached new lows.

In any case, Omirou added, Downer has 'long lost his objectivity' and called on the government to officially make an issue for his removal because his statements only serve to encourage Turkish intransigence.

Eu principles mean all Turk troops out including settlers plus all refugees back to their villages..
