THIS IS MY WORLD

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I've only been here a short while and only seen a handful of posts by ViewPoint. I'm of the belief that most of what he says is out of frustration. Frustration of the on going and never ending Cyprus saga. I personally don't know of any TC's that do not want a reunited Cyprus.

Our biggest concern is discrimination, my experience at the airport. OK, it wasn't a big deal but never the less as BirKibrisli put it, one bad egg is enough to ruin the omelette. Then you read about a certain couple of ladies in an office who regularly give TC's hell. Do we really need this?

I regularly visit official places in London, my physical appearance and accent shouts out foreigner, but I don't have civil servants disrespecting me, I get the job done and and thank you very much I'm off.

Until the GC's accept us equal Cypriots, until they rid themselves of the hatred they possess for us there will never be peace on the island.

I wonder if exorcism would work on you guys? Btw, Get Real may soon become an honorary member of My World, you interested?

To want a unified Cyprus is one thing Alan but what is achievable, given what you see here, is quite another.

Xenophobic baboon!

 For starters, when you address a Cypriot of ancient Choirokitian ancestry you should stand attention!

Are you standing and saluting right now? :?

Err, sorry... the matches have started! Bye!

Yeah that's it!!

Run like the little foolish fanatic that you are!

Turkey's (and before Turkey, its forebears the Ottomans) actions in Cyprus have made many Cypriots despise anything with a Turkish descriptor, even "Turkish" Cypriots. (That's why lokumi is called 'Cyprus Delight' in the free areas). Why not rename yourselves "Not-very-religious" Cypriots, or something, oh, and drop the Turkish language. People would like you better then. I mean, Maronites don't get a hard time do they?

To be fair, Turkey's army doesn't illegally occupy London, though.

Turkey goes out of her way to ensure anything "Turkish" is despised. Why else the flag in the mountain, the statues of Ataturk on every corner, the desecration of churches and graveyards, the systematic destruction of thousands of years of Cypriot culture? Drop the "Turkish". You'll have a lot more luck, I guarantee.

Now you're being plain stupid. I'd rather be a dead Turk than a healthy, wealthy living Greek. Lets get one thing straight, first and foremost I'm a Cypriot, but a Turkish Cypriot is what I am. Now your condemnation of anything Turkish is a little unjust, have you seen the increase in tourism in Turkey? Do you know the main reason for this? Let me tell you, its because the rest of Europe hates Greeks, they are by hook or by crook somehow falling in love with the same Turks that you'd like to think or believe they hate.

Since Jeremy Clarckson announced he hates Greeks numbers of Greek haters are on the increase.

So, how about this, you drop everything Greek in Cyprus and we'll follow suit and drop everything Turkish. Get rid of all the Oracles, Piratis' and the like and we'll get rid of the army. Until then not much will change.

Now how about becoming a member of My World?

Really? Because your forefathers felt compelled to convert to Islam, you're Turkish? How did that happen?

WTF do I care whether the rest of Europe likes Greeks or not?

Why don't you read what I wrote, fuckwit? I was explaining the good reasons why many Cypriots (not other Europeans) despise anything "Turkish".

This is an irrelevance to me.

The people you mention are Cypriot citizens and have every right to be in Cyprus. Turkey's troops aren't and don't. It is not in my power to get rid of such people who belong in Cyprus. More to the point, it's not in TCs power to get rid of Turkey's army, which doesn't.

Throughout the history of humanity there have been decent people and rascals. So far the rascals had their way in Cyprus. We dream of the time that will surely come when decency, fraternity and understanding will reign supreme in Cyprus. Progress cannot be stopped. It can be delayed but it cannot be stopped.

Hey AlanwithoneL !!, would you kindly oblige and ram that emblem of persecution you display as your avatar, right up your 'Jacksie'?.

It represents FAR too much suffering to millions of innocent people across the globe.

Known as 'The Butcher's Apron' in Eire, it conjures up memories of similar atrocities committed here in Cyprus.

"Wherever there is hatred, misery and despair, wherever there is hardship, the 'Butcher's Apron' has been there".

R.I.P.

Costas Sophocleous, from Konia, Paphos, passed away yesterday age 85. He was part of OUR WORLD. A decent man who worked tirelessly for the good of all Cypriots. He has left us two excellent books on the recent history of Cyprus, titled "struggle for freedom". He phoned me from Paphos, some 7 years or so, to ask me what I thought of his first book. I said to him "hurry up and finish the second volume". He did, a couple of years ago and it is a must, for those that have no blinds and really want to know the events after 1950, from an unbiased person, a Cypriot through and through.

Here are the ISBN numbers for Greek readers:

9969-8773-0-3

978-9963-8773-1-7

We're talking about Cyprus for Gods sake, so its either TC or GC so why're you asking what Greeks got to do with it? At every opportunity you happily condemn Turkey so I just pointed out I would never deny my Turkish ancestry.

I will never know how I became Turkish, I may well have been a Christian converted to Islam, I just don't know and it never bothered or traumatised me.

Your reason for despising anything Turkish should not extend to hating/despising TC's too, they are as innocent as you are in all this.

I cant ask the Turkish army to leave, but I tell you what, if there was a magic wand that you could wave and remove all the Turk/TC hating fanatics out of the island I would be the first to campaign for their removal. But thats just fantasy I guess. So the saga continues and will for God knows how long more.

Sorry to hear this Bananiot, are the books available in Turkish or English?

God bless his soul. May he rest in peace.
