Archaeologists believe they have discovered the palace of Odysseus In northern Ithaca
according to the latest news (Greek SKY / ΣΚΑΙ TV) archaeologists in Greece have recently unearthed spectacular archaeological remains which make them think that they have discovered the legendary palace of Odysseus!
In the last 16 years, archaeologists from the university of Ioannina, Greece, have been digging at Exogi of Ithaca (see map).
Thanassis Papadopoulos, Prof. of Archaeology at the University of Ioannina talked to the journalists of ΣΚΑΙ TV (see video below). He said that a three-parted building in two levels, the size of a palace (i.e. similar in size to the palace structures at Mycenae, Pylos, Tyrins) has been discovered. It is also worth reporting that the palatial complex is surrounded by a Cyclopean wall. Professor Papadopoulos also argued that his excavation team discovered a fountain of the 13th century BC, the date of which comes in accordance with the era that Odysseus must have lived. Additionally, the description of the view from Ithaca's palace in Homer's Odyssey 'fits like a glove' with the location of the archaeological site.
