A place in Cyprus with a strong force field?

Postby computer41 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:33 pm

So today a friend was talking to me about something and I recalled being told in school once, possibly in a geography class, about a place (I'm assuming in Troodos) with a strong force field, so strong in fact that when you switch you car off there in the hill, the car will go uphill with the force pulling it. I also recall my mom mentioning this. Today I wanted to show my friend this is real after him not believing me and I know that people come from all over to see this 'phenomenon' but searching online provided no results whatsoever. Can anyone confirm this? I'm sure whoever told me this was serious about it. Where is this located?

It is an optical illusion...

The place is on the Polis road between Pafos and Polis...

It's a road that connects these two villages... (in a red circle)

But like my mate said... it's an illusion.

I experienced it, and yes, I was incredulous, but how is it an optical illusion?

Because the surrounding landscape leads your brain to believe that the road is sloping one way whereas it is actually sloping the other...

The road I live in here in Pissouri had the same effect before all the houses were built either side of it!

The surrounding views make you think the road you are on is sloping uphill when in fact it is sloping down.

Although it's been a few years, and my experience was under cover of darkness (and I had only 1 glass of wine), I recall the part of the road that we were on as being level. We were in an automatic SUV with the engine off. I swear it moved!

 I wish it were true, but accompanying passengers precluded such a phenomenon.
