Police cleared in teen motorbike death

Postby larnacaman » Sun Aug 15, 2010 12:06 am

THE POLICE Complaints Commission has absolved the police of any responsibility involving the death of a 16-year-old motorcyclist, who was killed in an accident last December in Larnaca.

The Commission had been investigating the case after the victim’s fellow students claimed 16-year-old Vasilis Theakou – who wasn’t wearing a helmet and had no licence - was being chased by a policeman before the accident occurred. The Attorney-general ordered a probe into the matter.

But the Commission yesterday announced its ruling: “No responsibility lies with the police.”

In an announcement, the police said the Commission had concluded “no youths had been chased by the police and no responsibility could be placed with its member or members, which is a conclusion the Attorney-general agrees with”.

Vasilis Theakou was killed on December 4 when he apparently lost control of his moped on Alexander Panagouli Avenue in the coastal town. The pupil from the local Technical School was catapulted into an electricity pole. His schoolmates claimed that Vasilis was being chased by police just before the crash.

And just what are the police supposed to do?? This young idiot was breaking at least 3 laws. No license, No safety helmet, Riding like a lunatic... Isn't that exactly what our policemen are out there to do, to apprehend and bring charges against offenders in a court of law???
Who's really at fault here?? The PARENTS!!

Every year we see and hear the same thing, Youths killing themselves on motor bikes. We have all see them, every last one of us.... screaming down roads, doing the He-Man wheelies.... 9 out of 10 times with not a safety helmet in sight. These are not isolated occurrence's, this is going on day in day out, throughout the Island....

The chances are, that these brainless morons have no form of insurance either, so any injury to other persons, or damage to other road users vehicles, is going to be a roller coaster ride, getting any form of financial
retribution....

So what's the answer, how are we going to stop this, and this meaningless loss of young life's ???...

Depends on what you mean by confidence. If your talking Basic confidence, ...then there are many!!!!
Total confidence, ....well that i suppose, is a different matter !!!

But you said...

"the problem is the police here have no public conifidence"

...which clearly suggests that public confidence in Police exists elsewhere but not Cyprus!
