The survivors hope that they NEVER have to relive those days again.

RIP.....................

I hope the perpetrators of all these massacres - whether TC/T or G/GC meet their just ends.

Deniz,

In modern Cyprus we have applied our own version of Omerta, guilty silence.

No criminals will ever face punishment because we all cover them and blot the events from our minds. We do not even name them, so that the community knows who it is dealing with. All of us bear responsibility for the silence. Every single one of us on both sides of the green line.

To me, this is a sign of great shame felt by the communities. Thats why I believe that in the event of a re-unification, these terrors will never happen again. I doubt we will ever find out though.

Deniz,

We do not need to find out, we all know, either directly or through the grapevine about the persons resonsibe for Tokhni, Sandalaris, Afania, Palekythro and before that, in Saittas, Limassol and other places. Names are bandied about, we have heard them. Hearsay is not evidence admissible in a court, but we can gauge the source and figure things out as individuals.

The chilling factor in some bits of hearsay is to hear how young the perpetrators were, and how lightly they took their deeds. The sound of giggling accompanying some accounts is the most chilling part of all.

And we should feel shame

In the event of ever getting unification, there would have to be a point where someone sees something that the greatest minds in the world have yet to see.

When I was last in Cyprus a couple of weeks back or so I met a 43 year old from Tochni , he was visiting my son in law , they are both in the same army unit and they are also buddies.
He was only 7 when the savages came to the village that had thus far enjoyed a peaceful coexistence. He remembers the atmosphere being heated up but being only 7 at the time he suggested I speak to his father.
What his father told me made my hair stand on end. Such barbarity such cold blooded murderers fuelled by intense hatred . The man mentioned some other gruel acts which I shall not post.
He did say that he was ashamed to call him self a G/C ....
Soon afterwards reprisals equal in barbarity followed against G/Cs in surrounding villages.
