Unification Stories for kids...

Postby insan » Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:01 pm

Conclusion

In retrospect, Greek inhabitance of Cyprus that dates back to the Bronze age, shows us that this island consists of a religion, culture and language that is of Greek origin. However, we must also understand that the Turkish conquest also played a large role in creating Cyprus’s demography. Subsequently, the Greek-Cypriot majority and Turkish-Cypriot minority lived together, in peace and harmony, for hundreds of years.

Nice.. this means, Greek Cypriots too were very happy under Ottoman rule... so why did they seek union with Greece while they had been coexisted with TCs in peace and harmony for hundreds of years?

However, we believe that two of the many things that led to the deterioration of peace and harmony should be highlighted. The first, the plan of “taksim” was engraved in the minds of the Turkish-Cypriots, which led them to believe, after many years of co-habitation, that things needed to change. The Turkish-Cypriots were led to believe that “taksim” was the only answer to their problems, even though no problem existed.

Are you kidding with us? No problem existed, eh? TCs actually should embrace Enosis because it was their turn to try living under the [fascist] Greek rule... :?

From a website that tells unification stories only for lil kids...

What a load of...................

That web site jumped to the Turkish landings with no reference to the coup against Pres. Makarios by the EOKA-B and Junta supporters. That's history for you. Should I laugh or should I cry?

load of bollocks .

There was hardly any peace and harmony between the Cypriot people and the Turkish invaders. The Turks oppressed the Cypriots and treated them as second category people refusing to Cyprus its freedom for centuries (just like they did with all other Greek islands and territories), while just 80 years after the end of their oppresive rule they collaborated with the British Colonialists in order to yet again deny to Cyprus its freedom and have gains on the expense of the Cypriot population.
