Hardened criminals do not need anybody's permission to arm. In addition to the usual sources, firearms are very easy to make. Rape, robbery and assaut are not petty crimes, all three show reductions in areas where CCW permist are issued in the USA. A dramatic contrast between the US and the UK is in the rate of burglaries in occupied houses, it is somewhere near 13 to 1, attributed mostly the possession of arms by the law abiding in America. We often like to poke fun at them, but crime rates are down in the USA.
As to the reaction of bystanders, it is a well observed fact that in places like Turkey the shout of "thief" wil bring instant reaction by the bystanders because the general moral attitude justifies reaction. In the UK the public dare not react, they are afraidd they might find themselves sued by the thief or prosecuted by the police. When that happens the country is down the tubes, it has sold its ass to the criminals.
1. Of course they don't Nikitas but if disect the crime figures then I would say they were in the lesser %'s so why react so strongly against the greater.
2. Have we got any figures for how insurance companies have made a contribution to those figures by demanding higher and higher speck of burglar alarms on premises and making sure the owner is responsible for his own protection?
