Not all non muslims Figgy - but can you explain to me why some parents make their children join in the fasting too? When you consider a lot of Muslim countries are extremely hot, I for one find that quite amazing! Sorry if you find this offensive but that is my oprinion!

well as from my own background, kids dont fast!!!

that would be cruel, fasting is only for adults who arent sick and strong enough to fast, if you couldnt fast then Allah wouldnt hate you or punish you!!

elders fast by choice , they dont have to, pregnant women, or if it was the time of the month (not because women are dirty but because its friggin painfull), women that breast feed, people that on meds !!!

my little sis she is 10 y/o she fast 2 hours then she eats,

i donno why you mking it a big deal, as if you didnt eat for half a day you will die !! as for the water , im happy to let you know before sunrise you can eat lots of food that will keep water in your body !!

i my self ♥ Ramadan for what it is, you know that as a fact you cant get angry or say swear words just because if you did your fasting isnt acceptable !! food is the easiest thing to fast on, but keeping your mouth shut and being nice all month is the hardest

BUT BACK TO THE TOPIC

i dont agree with who says Ramadan isnt happy time because where i come from, people eat a massive meal
before sun rise, then fall a sleep r g t work then at down we eat the tastiest most lovable food ever !!

people are so happy that they decorate the friggin streets !! you can simply tell its Ramadan from the lights
and the special decorations in the streets and after sun down ppl go out all night long either visiting families or just as i used to do with my friends go smoke some hash and set in a coffee shop to eat sweets !!!

and by the way..... i think that person who said his life story to explain what he knows about Muslims, had a bad childhood !! shame you missed enjying such a month

Well fig head, there are Muslims and there are Muslims. I wish all Muslims could celebrate Ramadan by sitting around smoking Hash and eating sweets, unfortunately they don't.

Overall it is meant to be a happy time, yes indeed, however it doesn't always work like that in practice and it is also a sign for the upcoming most bloody religious event the world has whitnessed since the time of the Aztechs.

KURBAN!!!! *DUM DUMMMM*

I absolutely and utterly hate Kurban.

A religion of peace who sees animals as nothing but commodities God has given them so that they can slit their throats and have fun....

Education - not a 'big deal' figgy.
I know for a fact that some families make their children fast - not right or healthy as far as I am concerned. :(
There is nothing wrong with fasting - Christans do it during Lent too - but not to the Muslim extreme.
Sorry, but I also know that some people do have to work 'outside' of hours - hotel workers, taxi drivers, shop owners to name but a few - and to be deprived of water alone in my book is wrong. You say that you retain the water from your morning meal - not if you are out working or in the sun you don't. Dehydration is a very serious condition and one that can hit you like a ton of bricks. Not good!

However did you manage not to use the F word Figgy?!

Any, ANY!, person with a minimal common sense would understand that such a regime is rooted in a sex-oriented mind. Revelations? My ass!

Everything is sex-oriented CrookedRiverGuy!

The difference is being aware of it, or living totally unaware and under the control of your animal instincts.

Not much different than any animal really.

It is the only unique thing that separates some of us from the common animal.

This is what the al-Koran says about fasting. Everything else has been written by other religious scholars (of course always men).

FASTING

CHAPTER II., Verse 179.—There is prescribed for you the fast as it was prescribed for those before you; haply ye may fear. (180) A certain number of days, but he amongst you who is ill or on a journey, then (let him fast) another number of days. And those who are fit to fast may redeem it by feeding a poor man; but he who follows an impulse to a good work it is better for him; and if ye fast it is better for you, if ye did but know.

The month of Ramazan, wherein was revealed the Koran, for a guidance to men, and for manifestations of guidance, and for a discrimination. And he amongst you who beholds this month then let him fast it; but he who is sick or on a journey, then another number of days—God desires for you what is easy, and desires not for you what is difficult—that ye may complete the number and say, "Great is God," for that He has guided you; haply ye may give thanks.

Obviously you have not been in one ever, or you would know what a happy spirituality, millions of starving and pissed off people carry under 35 degrees on a work day...

I truly hate Ramadan...

Also from the Suat-ul Bakara (al-Koran):

"2:187 Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments. Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you, and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread; then complete your fast Till the night appears; but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat in the mosques. Those are Limits (set by) Allah. Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.

What is that supposed to mean?

Am I to take it as a comforting compliment, to know that I am not as "backward and religious" as all the other TC's?

Is that what you are implying?

I'm just kidding with you man

 Not at all.
But assuming I was a media influenced plonker, would it surprise you if I thought that this kind of dissent would have earned you a unanimous fatwa like in the case of Salman Rushdie or something.
Anyway I commend your honest opinion about Ramadan but I didn't think any sane Muslim would actually question it. :D
