Hahaha, i thought that was funny, a Christian telling a Muslim all about Ramadan, ...That's a cracker!!! ...lol!!!!

I totally agree with shahmaran, what he is saying is the real truth of the matter, and as he also says ...he's only scratching the surface of what he's told you all....

Your all thinking about 35C, Now think about 45C to 50C, because that's the sort of temp' that many in the Middle Eastern countries, are seeing this time of year. Also, in the Arab countries, they seem to take Ramadan to it's nth degree, It's not only that you can't take anything in to your body, you can't have anything coming out either so all must take there ablutions etc before sun up and hold what wasn't ready to come out, until sundown. Now how bloody crazy is that ???? In a word it covers ''Everything'' From Sex to Food, and all are expected to observe what is not allowed!! All that is, apart from very young infants, and those that are under medical supervision!!

13th century ideology trying to live and perpetuate it's self in 21st century society!!!

Shahmaran
Well I am technically "a Muslim" being brought up in a Muslim world and all, and I can tell you Ramadan is about, from the guy who makes your kebab, to the guy who drives your bus, doing everything while constantly cursing his life. No body is happy and everyone is even more aggressive than usual!

Starving yourself only so that you can go and consume MORE food than you usually would in a day, on a single meal, is hardly appreciation nor healthy and refusing to drink water on a 35C summer day is idiotic.

It not only ends there, but other people also feel that they have the right to tell you off for not joining them with their "love for the people", so much that, they do end up on newspapers every year because of violent attacks against people who were doing nothing but sitting there eating or smoking a cigarette., minding their own business, on the wrong time of the day.

If you are a woman and you are having your period, your starvation is not considered to be "worthy" of by the so called creator, because he considers you to be "dirty" at the time!

I can go on for ever, about how pointless and self-contradictory fasting is, but I'm glad that you can see Ramadan from such a naive and positive perspective, unfortunately the reality is anything but.

Looks like we got more in common that we all thinks ........ so what's all the fighting about lol ..... lets all kiss and make up

My recollections of Ramadan in Egypt are of a rather happy time. With lots of eating at street stands under huge arc lights. Maybe the Arabs just switch routines and rest during the day and work at night during Ramadan, the streets seemed to flood with people after sunset.

Nikitas,

Your not too far from the truth there, they do in fact turn a little nocturnal during the month of Ramadan. They also only work up until 1pm in most of the Middle East countries. Sure they seemed happy in the evenings, while they could eat drink and be merry along with all the other things they are denied during daylight hours.
But i can assure you, they ain't happy and joyful pilgrims during the day.....

If you want to know more about the amount of restrictions imposed on Muslims during Ramadan, try tuning in to Saudi Arabian TV channel 2 (English) and listen to clerics answering questions on what can and can't be done in the holy month, it will open the eyes of most westerners, as to what Ramadan involves to it's followers. Maybe to the point of disbelief.

Personally, i believe that there are as many that don't follow Ramadan's fasting laws to the letter, as those that do. I also think that there are more and more that don't follow them at all, especially those that are outside of those countries that recognise and enforce Ramadan laws....
