‘Greek Cypriots

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby SKI-preo » Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:31 am

My understanding was that the 90's s300 adventure is what prompted Cyprus' admission into the EU. The s300 were cheap and the outcome was good value if this is the case. The whole point of an arms race is that you never actually use what you have. Cyprus is in a state of war, there is a clumsy and fragile cease fire but there is still a war. Cyprus should be spending at least the same percentage Israel. Peace is more likely if Turkey is reluctant to use cheap, dirty and innacurate weapons such as napalm. Turkey does not seem to be getting any less aggressive with time and Cyprus is in a very dirty neighbourhood. Cyprus is not Tahiti or Hawaii it is an island in the middle of hell fire. We are only allowed barbaric Leventine solutions to our problems because of our neighbourhood. If our neighbours were progressive pluralist multicultural Western democracies would we be talking about barbaric constitutions like those being offered. Public stoning of women by family is common in most of our neighbours. What chance does Cyprus have?

Blame your neighbours, not the Cypriots.... Ski wake up and smell the coffee

Cyprus police recover part of stolen military explosives August 10, 2010
Cyprus police said on Monday they have recovered part of a large quantity of military explosives stolen from an army camp depot almost three weeks ago.

Police spokesman Michalis Katsounotos said 92 sticks of PG-2 high power plastic explosives out of 200 sticks stolen on July 21 were found meticulously hidden in a mountainous area, about 20 kilometers from the army camp.

"The police acted on information and the search is going on for the rest of the explosives," Katsounotos said.

He added the Police are confident that the entire quantity will be recovered.

Defense Minister Costas Papacostas said the explosives had passed into the hands of criminal gangs before being recovered.

"This has to be established yet, but I have my own information, " he said.

"I am confident that once the lead has been found, the case will be solved," he added.

He told state television in an interview that army officers have dealings with criminals and that he is seeking to change army regulations so as to stamp out of the army renegade elements.

Two no-commissioned officers are in police custody on suspicion that they had facilitated the stealing of the explosives by common- law criminals.

You don't know what your talking about. The Turkish military is not and can't send all of their aircraft to Cyprus. The S-300 along with many other AA weapons would provide a deterrent, if you don't know what that is I don't have time to explain it to you. The CNG has drone aircraft as well as do the Greek forces on Cyprus. The CNG has a advantage in tanks and anti tank weapons which the TAF admits. The CNG has one of the biggest spec ops in the world compared to overall military size. The TAF advantage lies in air power and Naval power. The Cyprus government has defense agreements with the EU, France, Serbia, Greece, Armenia, and Russia. If a couple of recruits passing out is surprising to you then you don't know shit about military training. I was in the US Navy 1995- 2006, I served in spec ops and NATO joint training and operations. I was stationed in Turkey and trained TAF. The TAF has the second largest standing force in NATO but they lack depth and discipline. They are extremely weak in the NCO area and that is why the US started sending them to the UK and US for training. The invasion in 1974 was a complete cluster fuck and military failure. They had massive manpower and overwhelming weapons advantage and they fucked up in so many ways I won't even get into it. If the TAF invaded it would destabilize the entire country of Turkey.

So let me get this right: you are a GC American who was in the U.S. Navy, who was in the special operations, who was stationed in Turkey, who trained the Turkish Air Force?

Are you sure you do not have a mission to Mars in there somewhere?

I know that you Bananiot will not use the expressive language that I prefer to use when responding to a couple of bloody fools farting away. Here is GR, Cyprus's official Bin Laden / Taliban mouth-peace talking absolute crap , his trade mark really , the moron actually believes that a solution can only come from war , thousands upon thousands could lose their lives , the Cypriot infrastructure its roads its economy would collapse , but there again as Simple Simon says lets spend more money on defence then we can ...defeat Turkey.
A pair of Plonkers without a doubt.

Perhaps you ought to charge your TC customers a Cyprus defence tax, so we can pay for the weapons we need to rid us of them.

The S300 missiles was an election ploy employed by Klerides and his camp to win the elections in 1997. George Iacovou, who lost out to Klerides, jumped on the bandwagon too, and declared that if he won the elections he would bring the S300 faster than Klerides.

Now, some people clearly believe that we are capable of putting up a military deterrent to Turkey but we are not quite capable of doing it, because of incompetent politicians. This is baby talk. This americanGC bloke claims that Turkey has serious shortcomings but probably he compares the Turkish military to the professional armies of America and UK. He does not tell us how the Turkish army compares with our 18 year old conscripts. In short, he talks rubbish, like many GC's of the diaspora who lead good lives abroad and a war with Turkey will not reach them or their children.

Coming back to the S300, if B25 and Simon were Turkey, would you wait until these missiles were installed and ready to use before taking them out?

Can you imagine the effect of this on the morale of the people after another crushing defeat?

Surely our best bet to deal with Turkey is to strengthen our political arsenal with some sound and pragmatic policies that can gain support from the international community and forget deterrents and war games that can only bring disaster. I have a sneaky suspicion however, that it might be too late for this too.

"if you uproot people from where they live, "

There is a touch or irony in Eroglu using this language. His little fiefdom was created by uprooting a third of the populatio of Cyprus.

Take his thinking a logical step further: there can be no territorial adjustment. So why are we talking? To figure out how much control the TCs are going to gain over the south? In that case the only reasonable response is "PISS OFF Mr Eroglu".

Let's face the facts- BBF is partition with a pretty face. No territorial adjustment makes BBF meaningless. It is that simple.

Nikitas, lest be totally honest on this. The first people who were uprooted en masse were Turkish Cypriots in the 60's. Some became refugees three times in the course of a lifetime! I am not saying this to excuse the uprooting of GC's in 1974 by any means but to bring some perspective into this matter.
