Particularly the "holy land"... "the good lord punishing the treacherous Cypriots"...

GR, maybe vast maority of your ruling elite are not descendants of Choirokittians? Maybe they are really descendants of Hellenes...

I know, now you can feel the pain of being among the Choirokittian minority... Had there been a Chorokittian maority in your government most probably they would have the same opinions you had...

So, you would have put your military solution plans into action maybe several years ago... then either whole of Cyprus would have become under Choirokittian rule or TC-Turkish rule... God knows... since you say Cyrprus is a holy land maybe you would have been punished one more time for getting allied with the EU...

You know EU ruling elite does not have any heavenly plans for middle east and caucauses... God knows all...

Immediately after the well known Israeli/Palestinian territory known as the “holy land”, comes Cyprus in Christian spiritual significance, due to the efforts of apostles Paul and Barnabas from whom Christianity had spread to Europe and other places!

So it’s by no accident that the Pope made a pilgrimage to Cyprus not too long ago…

Definitions of pilgrimage…

“In religion and spirituality, a pilgrimage is a long journey or search of great moral significance.”

“A journey to a sacred place or shrine.”

“Religious journey: a journey to a holy place, undertaken for religious reasons”

“Trip to special place: a journey to a place with special significance”

Then we are mistaken about the influence of church ... :? The pope, bishops and priests still have a heavy influence on Christian believers...

Noting the traditional consideration of Cyprus as part of the Holy Land, the Pope observed that "the situation of continuing conflict in the Middle East must be a source of concern to all Christ’s followers.

"No one can remain indifferent to the need to support in every way possible the Christians of that troubled region, so that its ancient Churches can live in peace and flourish."

Highlighting the strong relations between the Churches during his address, Chrysostomos II said that the 21st century has represented an "age of dialogue, rapprochement and reconciliation," adding that the Orthodox Church of Cyprus has "decided to continue this meaningful path and full of peace because we are sure that this is our mission given to us by the will of God, full of goodness."

The Pontiff then expressed his hope in a future of ecumenical cooperation, and mutual efforts towards peace, reconciliation and stability between the island and the rest of the Holy Land. He parted by wishing "the joy of the Risen Christ" to the people of the country in Greek.

The Holy Father went on to visit the Icon Museum and other sites within the archdiocesan offices before attending a lunch with His Beatitude and returning to tye apostolic nunciature to rest before the afternoon Mass.

Both Cyprus and Malta can be considered as sacred islands with an important Christian message to convey in the areas of dialogue and peace. They are strategically situated in the Mediterranean basin. Malta is a bridge between southern Europe and North Africa, whereas Cyprus is a bridge between Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The links between the two islands and the Holy Land Custody have been strong. Cyprus was for many years the headquarters of the Holy Land Custos, when it was impossible to reside in Jerusalem. The Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem moved to Cyprus after the fall of Acre in 1291. In the case of Malta, its fine double harbours have always provided shelter for ships bound to the Holy Land, particularly during the period of the Order of the Knights of St. John, born in Jerusalem, who made Malta their headquarters between 1530 and 1798.

Both Cyprus and Malta share a common destiny regarding the future. Both islands have to face the challenge of illegal immigration and insertion of an ever-growing Muslim community. They are strategically situated on the southern fringes of Europe, and therefore remain stepping-stones for dialogue between the European Union and the countries of North Africa and the Middle East.

These islands on one hand are considered as a conveyor of the Christian message of peace and dialogue but on the other hand they have to face the challenge of "insertion of an ever-growing Muslim community." :?

Yeah, well... deep down racism is alive and well worldwide. For as long as a religion is winning followers it's considered ok but when its losing ground the guns come out!
