I think it is a positive direction, but whats with the names?
It is only suggesting that we are "Turkish" while they are "Greek Cypriot".
Either we are both Cypriot or we are both Greek/Turkish.
How about "The Northern Republic of Cyprus" and "The Southern Republic of Cyprus" ?
If they are called the Greek Cypriot Republic then we should also be called the Turkish Cypriot Republic.
But since the country is known as Cyprus anyway, then why bother with repeating that name within the State names in the first place?
I think the less suggestive of ethnicity the better, I am sick of this ethnic crap, it is the least of humanities worries yet some idiots pay way too much attention to it....

Hello Shah,
The north does not want to be known as Turkish Cypriots, but TURKISH only, hence the name "trnc" created by Turkey. Turkey just uses the TC name brand to justify her occupation of the north, but in reality, she just wants the north to be Turkish only, which the Fascist TC leaderships have been only too willing to bend over and do as they have been told and the hell with those true Turkish Cypriots in what they want.!

Hi Kikapu!!
I agree TRNC sounds way too "mainland" and synthetic, never really liked it myself, then again I also don't think we had much say in it.
But obviously during the dark era, neither parties cared much about being just Cypriot and I am assuming neither of the mainlands wanted to even hear about any of that non-sense.
Considering the fact that even many of the GC's wanted to be a part of Greece If they had succeeded to do so, this place would have been no different than Santorini or Simi.
They would just be some Greeks living on another Greek island, as we are supposed to be some Turks living on another Turkish island, sad really...

Facts aren't your thing are they Kiks??/
TRNC was declared by Denktas and advised against by Turkey!!!
Turkey could have and would have annexed a long time ago if that is what she wanted when she was not quite the apple of the worlds eye and not now when things are going well for her.

I agree with you, Shah, that had Enosis was declared in the 60's, in what it would have been in Cyprus today, but lucky for all those who still claim in being Cypriots first (TCs & GCs), it did not happen and to a large degree, the RoC is still keeping the Cypriotism alive, but regrettably, the TCs in the north have long became an accomplice with Turkey to the extermination of their own culture and ethnicity in the name of being "saved of extermination" from the GCs.! So I guess we TCs didn't really care of having our identity and culture of being exterminated, is just that, we only cared who was going to do it.! Surely if that's what we wanted, we could have asked the GCs to pay us good money to leave the island back when and go and live in Turkey as rich immigrants, which in time, we would have lost our TC identity and culture, only no one would have lost their lives.!
